Dancing AI Kittens refers to videos, primarily found on TikTok, depicting kittens dancing to popular music. The videos are created with the AI video tool Sora and possess an uncanny visual aesthetic often associated with generative AI. the videos exist as a means to generate views and engagement, and are thus optimized for virality. As such, many of the videos feature elements intended to maximize their "cuteness" with kittens often wearing clothing and accessories such as skirts, bows and tiaras. The trend reflects the widespread proliferation of AI slop across the internet.

Origin

Cats have an extensive history on the internet, with many of the earliest memes and most viewed content on the web featuring cats. As generative AI has become increasingly more powerful and accessible, cats have become a popular subject for AI videos. OpenAI released its Sora text-to-video model in select countries on December 9, 2024, with Sora 2 releasing on September 30, 2025.^[1] After its release, TikTok was soon flooded with videos created by the tool. The powerful new models allowed for the creation of realistic videos that would otherwise be impossible to reproduce, particularly with animals. On December, 31st, 2025, TikTok user^[2] @meowtakeover posted an AI video of a white kitten dancing while wearing a bunny hat, the video recieved 1.3 million views and 165,300 likes in less than two months.

Subsequent videos uploaded by the user would continue to go viral, with many receiving over a million views.^[3]

On January 4th, 2026, @meowtakeover posted the page's most popular video^[4], this time reaching 39.7 million views and receiving 2.2 million likes in under two months. Another video^[5], posted a week later on Janurary 11th, 2026, received 12.2 million views and 1.3 million views in a little over a month.
