About

AI Green Screen or AI Greenscreen is a filter on TikTok that visually generates a given text prompt as a green screen background using artificial intelligence. The filter inspired several trends on TikTok in August 2022, including the "My Death" trend where TikTokers try and get the AI to predict their death and a trend where users type "penis" into the filter.

Origin

The AI Greenscreen filter was added to TikTok sometime in early August 2022. Two of the earliest videos showcasing the effect were posted on August 4th, 2022 by TikTokers[1][2] @wavewyld and @jakeyboiarts, garnering over 570,000 and 161,000 views respectively in three weeks (shown below, left and right). In the videos, the users type their usernames into the prompt box to see what they get.

Spread

The filter became popular over the course of the month. One of the earliest trends sees TikTokers typing "penis" into the prompt box and seeing what comes up (example shown below, left). On August 8th, Screen Rant[3] reported on the filter. On August 9th, TikToker[4] @noahglenncarter tested the trend, garnering over 1.8 million views in two weeks (shown below, right).

How You Died In A Previous Life Trend

In mid-August 2022, TikTokers began putting their birthdays into the prompt box in an attempt to see how they died in a previous life. For example, on August 12th, TikToker[5] @whatdavodid posted a video where he puts his birthday into the prompt box and gets an image that somewhat resembles the September 11th, 2001 attacks, garnering over 7.6 million views in two weeks (shown below).

My Death Trend

Around the same time in August 2022 TikTokers began typing "my death" into the prompt box in an attempt to get the AI to predict their deaths (examples shown below, left and right). The trend was reported on by HITC[6] on August 26th, 2022.

Tap Tap Come In Trend

On August 24th, 2022, TikToker[7] @noahglenncarter posted a video explaining how typing in the prompt "tap tap come in" at night supposedly generates an image resembling a hand. A few minutes after the image is generated, users may purportedly hear a tapping in their room from an unknown entity (shown below). The video gained over 896,000 views in two days.
