The AI Ghostface Trend is an AI art trend in which participants use artificial intelligence tools, usually Google Gemini, to generate images of themselves in a Y2K style sitting in their bedroom while the character Ghostface from the Scream franchise lingers behind them, often in a doorway. The trend, typically set to a remix of the song "Deceptacon" by Le Tigre, was popularized on TikTok and Instagram Reels in late September 2025 and inspired parodies of the trend in which Ghostface is shown interacting with people in a variety of ways.

Origin

On September 25th, 2025, Instagram^[1] user cortneydryden posted an AI-generated photograph of someone meant to resemble herself talking on a phone in a Y2K-style bedroom as Ghostface stands in the doorway behind her, garnering roughly 750 likes in five days. This is the earliest known example of the trend, although it is unconfirmed to be the first.

In the post's description, the Instagram user offers the prompt that she used in Google Gemini to generate the image.

The trend became increasingly popularized on TikTok and Instagram Reels over the following days in late September 2025.

On September 26th, 2025, TikToker^[2] @keepingupwithmuva posted a video compiling several images following the trend and sharing the prompt, garnering over 2.7 million views in four days.

On September 28th, TikToker^[3] @ashleynicole6454 posted a video following the trend, featuring several images of Ghostface stealing her popcorn, garnering over 770,000 views in two days.

Several examples of the trend were also posted to X^[4][5] on and around this date.

Also on September 28th, 2025, Instagram^[6] user penitentpropagandist posted an image following the trend in which Ghostface stalks the protagonist of the video game Blasphemous, The Penitent One, the description reading, "The 'Ghostface AI" trend is cringe, but exposes a deeper, more disturbing cringe among some modern women – fetishizing murderers," garnering over 1,300 likes in two days.
