Ahi Challenge

Ahi Challenge is a TikTok dance that became popular in late January 2020. The dance that is set to the reggaeton song "Tra Tra" by Nfasis^[1] involves moving your hips back and forth with a series of different arm placements.

Origin

On January 24th, 2020, TikToker @elrodcontreras posted the first Ahi Challenge dance video which gained over one million likes in a month (shown below).

Spread

On January 28th, 2020, TikTok star Charlli D'Amelio performed the dance and received over 8.2 million likes in three weeks (shown below, left). That same day, TikToker @addisonre of Hype House posted a video of the dance and garnered over 3.3 million likes in three weeks (shown below, center). On February 7th, stars of the show "This Is Us" performed the dance using @sterlingkbrown's account (shown below, right). The video accumulated over 259,000 likes in a week. StayHipp^[2] published an article on the popular dance challenge.
