#AdultMoney is a TikTok trend set to the original sound, "Adult money probs – Jake Hall."^[1] In the original sound, TikToker 2tallhall^[2] narrates: "Don't get me wrong, being an adult and living on your own is pretty great. The only problem is I now have access to adult money, which means I can buy whatever I want, which means I end up buying shit like this and having zero regrets about it." As the audio runs, users show off extravagant or unnecessary purchases they've made with their "adult money."

Origin

On March 5th, 2020, TIkToker 2tallhall uploaded a video captioned "No self control" to TikTok (shown below). In the video, he shows off a shower curtain with a bicycle-riding raptor on it while recording the "Adult money probs – Jake Hall" sound. The video garnered over 3.9 million views in six months.

Spread

Users continued to use the sound in the following months to show off their purchases. On March 12th, 2020, TikToker kevinwehb^[3] uploaded a video using the sound to show off a shower curtain depicting a cat riding a unicorn (shown below, left). The video garnered over 1.3 million views in 6 months. On April 10th, TikToker therealzackgold^[4] used the sound to show off his "film props," including a toolbox resembling Thor's hammer (shown below, right). The video gained over 3 million views in 5 months.

By September 25th, #AdultMoney was trending on TikTok with over 2.4 billion total views attributed to videos under the hashtag. The original sound has been used over 6,200 times as of the same date. YouTubers started uploading #AdultMoney compilations to YouTube in September (example shown below).
