About
ABBA "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" TikTok Dance Trend refers to a dance trend on TikTok in which people will do a specific choreography to the 1979 disco song "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" by ABBA. The dance routine, comprised of a one-two twist and kick with different assortments of spins added, became popularized on TikTok in late 2021 and early 2022 as people began to copy it and add their own spins on the trend.
Origin
The song "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" was first released by the Swedish pop group ABBA in August 1979, becoming a massive success for the band and one of their most well-known songs and music videos. On December 15th, 2009, the official ABBA YouTube channel[1] uploaded the music video for the song to the platform, which gained over 470 million views over the next 15 years (shown below).
Over a decade later, the backing music and vocals were used on TikTok as part of a dance trend, with TikTokers uploading their attempts to do the dance's choreography beginning in late 2021. Starting with a high kick during the vocal warm-up, the dance goes into its main steps during the chorus.
On November 5th, 2021, one of the earliest examples of the TikTok trend was posted by TikToker spencewuah,[2] which earned over 916,000 likes in three years (shown below).
Spread
During the initial burst of virality in late 2021, the dance trend started being recorded by users in a range of different locations. For example, the November 27th, 2021, upload by TikToker twinsauce[3] showed the two twins performing the dance number while in the middle of a city street, shot from a far distance from an aerial camera and earning over 5.9 million likes in three years (shown below).
Following this, TikTokers began to use the backing sound as something for them to lip sync to, leading to many different creative uses for it.
On February 1st, 2022, TikToker nobleknightadventures[4] uploaded a TikTok of himself being surrounded by monsters and singing out a prayer for a wizard to save him before showing him dancing and being saved, earning over 1.8 million likes in two years (shown below).
