The 4chan /fa/ Meetup refers to memes and jokes about photos taken at meetups arranged by 4chan's /fa/ or fashion board contributors and members. The first of such meetups to garner notable attention on /fa/ was in Brisbane, Australia in June 2014, however, an April 2019 meetup in New York City has also been used in various meme edits. Such images are often subject to Photoshop edits that alter the heights, forehead sizes, neck lengths and clothing graphics of the men pictured in the original pictures.

Origin

On April 2nd, 2019, an anonymous user on 4chan's /fa/ (fashion) imageboard made a post proposing a meetup in New York City. The first images from the meetup began to appear on the thread around 2:30 p.m. the following day on April 3rd, 2019.^[1][2]

The first image of the /fa/ contributors posing together was posted in the original thread on April 3rd, 2019, however, another photo with more members was posted on a separate thread created later that day.^[3][4]

The earliest known meme edits of the aforementioned photo were posted to both the original thread^[6] and a separate 4chan thread^[5] on April 3rd, 2019, in which several of the young men pictured were photoshopped.

From left to right, the edits show a young man's clothing altered to look like he was in Naruto cosplay, a man's shirt edited to read "p**** n**** 69," a man's pants edited to look skinnier, a man's forehead doctored to look larger and more Yakubian, a man photoshopped to look shorter while the man next to him had his neck elongated, and a man edited to look like he was sporting a Hitler mustache and a Black Sun logo often seen in Hyperborea edits that's associated with Nazism.

Precursor

Photos of a 4chan meetup supposedly taken in Brisbane, Australia sometime in June 2014 have also been subject to memes and edits. The earliest known post^[7] showing various /fa/ contributors lined up for a photo was shared on June 26th, 2014.

On June 23rd, 2015, a 4chan^[8] user posted a version of the aforementioned photo with Charleston Church shooter Dylan Roof edited into the frame toward the far right, while one other man's neck was edited to appear elongated.

Spread

In the following days and weeks, 4chan users posted more edits and memes featuring the young men who were photographed together at the April 2019 4chan /fa/ fashion board meetup (examples shown below).

Photoshopped versions of the 2019 /fa/ meetup continued to make the rounds online for several subsequent years, oftentimes with the poster unaware or uncaring about the photo having been altered.

For instance, Twitter^[9] / X user @spookperson reposted the photo on April 30th, 2020, gathering over 1,000 likes in four years, while user^[10] @phrenologylover's April 16th, 2021 post gathered over 38,000 likes in three years.

Also on April 16th, 2021, the image was posted to the subreddit /r/Chiraqology^[11] with the joke caption, "Thanks for the first r/Chiraqology meetup guys. Was fun meeting all of you. Can't wait till next year!" The post gathered over 4,000 upvotes in three years.

On May 15th, 2024, X^[12] user @ShitpostRock gathered over 22,000 likes for reposting the 2019 4chan /fa/ meetup photograph.
