2020 Bingo refers to metaphorical or literal custom bingo cards relating to major occurrences in 2020. Following, the Australian bushfires and the coronavirus outbreak many Redditors and Twitter users began reacting to new surprising news by referencing their 2020 bingo card or predicting apocalyptic scenarios using a custom bingo card.

Origin

On January 2nd, 2020, Twitter user @jules_lefevre[2] referenced a 2020 Bingo card in response to a tweet where Bette Midler calls Scott Morrison a fuckwit (shown below). The tweet gained over 440 likes and 40 retweets in five months.

Spread

On March 16th, 2020, Twitter user @bjoewolf[3] tweeted, "Did anyone have 'Mitt Romney endorsing Universal Basic Income six weeks after voting to convict Donald Trump' on their 2020 bingo card?" (shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 4,100 likes and 470 retweets in three months. On March 20th, Redditor tumsdout posted a custom 2020 Apocalypse Bingo card to r/memes[4] (shown below, right). The card features past and predicted future 2020 events.

On June 8th, Twitter user @maureenjohnson[5] posted a screenshot of the PG Tips and the Yorkshire Tea Twitter accounts speaking out against racism and said, "I didn't have anti-racist tea on my 2020 bingo card but I am delighted that it is here" (shown below). The tweet accumulated over 2,200 likes and 380 retweets in a day.

That's Another One For Apocalypse Bingo

That's Another One For Apocalypse Bingo is a reaction image featuring animated character Kronk (played by Patrick Warburton) from the 2000 comedy film The Emperor's New Groove. The image is typically used to describe 2020’s apocalyptic events, adding another one to the imaginary “apocalypse bingo” anytime a disaster, major world event or otherwise negative news story is released. The meme began appearing on a number of social media platforms after the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic around March 2020. The first meme using the reaction image was posted on March 18th, 2020, by Redditor[1] toxicpenguin9 to the r/memes sub under the title, “So we had a 5.7 earthquake in Utah this morning.” The post (seen below) received over 148,000 upvotes, 1,500 comments and numerous Reddit awards.
