20 Minutes Adventure is a photoshop meme featuring a screen captured image from a Rick and Morty episode in which the characters Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith are standing in front of a green portal prior to going on an adventure. The image is often edited with various other people and characters naively assuming their actions will only take twenty minutes.
Origin
On August 27th, 2017, Season 3 Episode 6 "Rest and Ricklaxation" of Rick and Morty aired on Adult Swim, which opened with a scene in which Rick Sanchez talks his grandson Morty Smith into taking a "twenty minutes adventure" that ends up lasting six days (shown below)
Spread
On September 3rd, Redditor OmnipotentPotato posted an edited version of the image featuring George W. Bush talking the United States of America into going on a "twenty minute adventure" in Iraq (shown below, left). Within five days, the post gained over 29,150 points (86% upvoted) and 300 comments on /r/MemeEconomy.[2]
The following day, Redditor OrestKHvolson uploaded an animated Game of Thrones-themed version of the clip to /r/freefolk,[3] where it accumulated upwards of 1,700 points (97% upvoted) within four days (shown below). On September 7th, The Daily Dot[1] published an article about the meme, highlighting a number of notable examples.
