100 Faces Meme

100 Faces Meme refers to a series of redraws on Twitter / X, among other sites, based on a 100-face expression drawing by X user @MagicalPouch, which was posted in November 2019 and spread over the following years. Artists inserted their original content (OC) characters or other notable characters from TV, movies, anime and video games into the visual template.

Origin

On November 25th, 2019, X^[1] user @MagicalPouch posted a drawing titled "100 Faces Meme," which features 100 facial expressions that could be applied to comic strip memes (seen below). The post amassed roughly 4,900 likes and 1,800 reposts in five years.

Spread

MagicalPouch's "100 face meme" template inspired other artists to replicate the drawing trend with their characters or other notable characters from works of media as the trend spread. For instance, on May 14th, 2021, Redditor^[2] mr_hugs_ uploaded his version of the 100 faces meme (seen below, left), which received roughly 70 upvotes and 43 comments in three years.

On June 22nd, 2020, DeviantArt^[3] user @lospella posted a version of the meme with their OC character designs (seen below, right). The post amassed roughly 987 views and 6 favorites in four years.
