Aah, the Internet. It is a vast and wild land, home to the kind of images that make you want to claw your eyes out and pour bleach into the sockets. That's why we love it, right?

These images seem to spring out from nowhere; it's hard to imagine that people actively share these things, much less create them… and even more difficult to imagine that people are going out of their way to find them. And yet, they do.

Using Google Insights for Search, we were able to narrow down the top 10 countries that are looking for four of our favorites: Lemon Party, Goatse, 2 Girls 1 Cup, and Blue Waffle.

Enjoy!

@Alex

Heh, I guess you're right. I'm no expert so I wouldn't really know all that hullabaloo about creating statistics. Also, the second half of your comment would probably pertain to my second post in terms of different cultures reacting to specific shock images/videos differently.

Jostin, as a former statistician, I always feel obligated to point out when someone is making a faulty analysis. Note that the top scorer for each search has a value of 100; this suggests to me that this does not represent an actual number, but a base-100 scale with the top country defining the upper end. With that said, I suspect that what you really need to cross-reference this with is the total number of actual searches for each term to create a properly-weighted value. This would skew these numbers immensely.

Secondly, you miss the biggest point of the concept of "shock sites" when you say "which country really liked searching". Remember that most people who search for these sorts of sites do it because someone tricked them into it. So the fact that the Irish are more likely to search for "blue waffle" doesn't so much mean that the Irish are kinky for that picture, but most likely rather that the Irish find the "blue waffle" prank funnier than most countries. Out of the memes listed, I think it's far more likely that "2 girls 1 cup" was searched for by someone who was turned on by it than any of the others. I'm only guessing this because while none of those sites are appealing to me, I am aware that there exists an interest in "scat porn", but I'm not aware that there exists an interest in "random pictures of distended rectums porn".

@Veyneru

I'm not really all that surprised about the fact.

For one, these are the English names that we've given each shock site. It's possible that other countries have a different name for them (i.e. What we call the Angry German Kid, Japan calls the Keyboard Crasher).

Secondly, it is possible that we are so used to our own specific shock imagery, we fail to realize that other countries may have popular shock imagery of their own. We ignore them because these other countries don't share them with us or because we completely ignore them.

Thirdly, different cultures have different shock values. It's possible that what shocks English-speaking countries may not actually shock other countries. It's the same visa versa with us not finding something they might find shocking to be shocking at all. Japan, for instance, does many, many crazy things that us English-speaking folk would find absurd beyond our wildest imaginations but to them, it's just another ordinary day on the internet.

My thoughts are that it basically comes down to language barriers and one's own culture. It's all hypothetical, but these are just my two cents on the matter. There are many, many reasons as to why this particular list is the way it is.

@Jostin Asuncion Am I the only one who noticed that all the top spots on that list are English speaking, and there aren't any English speaking countries lower down?

New Zealand, I am very disappointed in you.
