And the meme of October 2021 goes to …

With 19 percent of the votes and just a two-vote lead from the runner-up, it is China's Social Credit System memes that snatch the right to be called the October 2021's meme of the month. Sprouting from a Russian trend of February-March 2021, the trend slowly rose to popularity in the West, achieving major success with reaction videos and as an element of 21st Century Humor montages. But the format was more than just that: Social Credit System memes would not be half as popular as they are without the help of CCP's number one champion, John Xina. and his love for ice cream.

Snotty Boy Glow Up

Also with 19 percent of the votes, the second place goes to a cross-franchise meme playing off the uncanny similarity between Snotty Boy from Barnyard and Tighten from Megamind. While the clip of Snotty Boy from Barnyard swaggering through a door has been around in memes since 2019, it was his glow up into Tighten from Megamind that hit the spot and cemented the Snotty Boy Glow Up in meme meta for the entire month.

Evil X Be Like

The idea behind Evil X Be Like might not be unique (we saw something very similar with Finally, Upgrade just a year ago), but it's undeniably that type of format that catches on like wildfire and delivers every time. Mocking anything and anyone in a manner that is so tongue-in-cheek is the highest form of low art that is memes.13 percent of your votes and third place.

Squid Game

If you haven't heard of Squid Game by now, you've probably entered this site, the internet and human society for the first time today. The hit South Korean drama series in which 456 strangers stake their lives in deadly children's games for a shot at 45.6 billion won infested the web at unparalleled speed. Parodies, costumed videos, animations, real-life recreations (with fewer shooting people) and, of course, memes pouring onto us from pretty much everywhere show just how effective fan labor can be for integrating a work of art into the zeitgeist. Despite its overwhelming presence, Squid Game falls just short of the top three with 11 percent of the votes.

Let's Go Brandon

On October 2nd, an NBC reporter talking to NASCAR racer Brandon Brown misinterpreted the crowd chanting "fuck Joe Biden" as shouts of support for the racer, and that very instant a meme was born. The not-so-covert way of insulting the acting president of the United States, chanted during public events and snuck into internet comments, kept delivering giggles through the month, as did the huge spike in copium intake by those who took things a little too close to heart. With 9 percent of the votes, Let's Go Brandon earns fifth place on this list.

The Rock's Eyebrow Raise

Known as "The People's Eyebrow," Dwayne Johnson's iconic eyebrow raise has been The Rock's own certified meme well since the late 1990s. But now one could say that after TikTok thoroughly explored the meme potential of casting the famous inquiring eyebrow upon "suspect" videos, it can also be called "The People's Meme." Fifth place with 8 percent of your votes.

Closing the list are six memes of which many could have been on the podium some other month, but, faced with strong competition, failed to reach the top in October. These are Sora's arrival into Super Smash Brothers and many memes that ensued (7%), an older format improved by Sigma Male influence We Are Not The Same (5%), slow but persistent slimy assassin Immortal Snail (5%), the most suspect YouTube thumbnail of recent times Zamn She's 12? (2%), Facebook's name change to Meta (2%), and barely comprehensible yet charming in its stupidity 'Island Boy' freestyle (2%).

The Wock himself encouraged people to vote Brandon. They are all sick and evil.

Never even seen any of those China memes what even. Was expecting Squid Game to take it because the internet is boring, but I guess at least Snotty boy took second

The Social Credit memes are kinda like YouTube poops, if you go looking for them there's an ocean of them but otherwise you won't find them.

In terms of spread, Squid Game and Let's Go Brandon would win, but the poll is for favorites – if spread was the sole criterion there's be no reason for a poll because Google Analytics exists.

How did Snotty Boy Glow Up get so many votes? It's bland, repetitive, and pretty much a copy of virgin vs chad.

we like the template?

Honestly the comparison of normal vs deranged is always a fun when when you can remember to make it like that instead of turning the meme into another "Thing I dislike vs Thing I like" format
