And the meme of January 2022 goes to…

With 38 percent of your votes, Tifa's little Italian incident easily leaves all other competitors in the dust and lets Ms. Lockhart grab the coveted first place for herself. If you somehow missed the entire thing, in mid-January 2021, someone zoombombed the meeting of the Italian Senate and spiced it up a bit by streaming some hentai featuring Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII, with a guest appearance of Xiangling from Genshin Impact. For the following week, posting Italian-themed Tifa fan art and memes was the thing to do on Twitter and other platforms.

Megamind Peeking / "No Bitches?"

The lasting resurgence of Megamind memes kickstarted by image caption formats such as Thank You, Random Citizen and Metro Man Sees Megamind and Roxie has been going on strong for over two years now, so when an image of Megamind captioned simply "No Bitches?" blew up, nobody was too surprised. What really makes this reaction image shine is Megamind's very fitting expression, and all the references and redraws make the perfect cherry on top. Second place with 15 percent of votes.

Kramer, What's Going on in There?

The quintessential "let's reference every franchise" format of the month, Kramer, What's Going on in There? had Jerry and Kramer from Seinfeld visiting every film, show and video game in existence, with Kramer always coming up with a perfect remark for those in the know. We have to thank Seinfeld SoupPosting for blessing us with the format and Twitter for squeezing every last bit of potential from it — coming in with 11 percent of the votes and third place on the list.

Dr. Octopus Without Tentacles

Punished Dr. Octopus, a man denied his tentacles, could not grab that third place and stays just out of the top three with nine percent of the votes. The image, originally posted in December 2021, really went off after a viral repost in January, with people turning Alfred Molina's character into everything and anything that ever flew in a video game.

Willem Dafoe

After Spider-Man: No Way Home was released, Willem Dafoe was the man of the hour, with the appreciation social media had for the actor and his immense cool almost palpable. Ever since I'm Something of a Scientist Myself got turned into a meme in 2016, Willem Dafoe, and his Spider-man character Norman Osborn, in particular, has been repeatedly finding himself the character of meme formats, and No Way Home was the trigger for the massive love we accumulated for him to pour out. Nine percent of your votes net Willem Dafoe fifth place on our list.

Pushin' P

Pushing positivity? Pushing playas? Pushing pee? Whatever you think Pushin' P actually is, you can't argue that the phrase had its viral moment in January, and Gunna trying to explain what his lyric means was the reason for this. Jokes humorously explaining the meaning and referencing the phrase appeared across all platforms so that even those who never listened to Gunna caught wind of the meme. Four percent of the votes and sixth place.

Our monthly list wouldn't be complete without mentioning the runner-ups that didn't have it in them to reach the top six: the piracy- and computer-virus-positive QRposting (4%), devilishly devious My Child Will X (3%), vocabulary-challenging Wordle (3%), puritanical M&M's Makeover (2%), Quirked Up White Boy (goated with 2%) and West Elm Caleb with less than 1% of the votes.

Don't forget to vote for your favorite meme next month!

Tifa and Kramer were everywhere, but this is the first I’ve heard of the Megamind meme and it got second?

Baithooks

It was literally so late into the month when it came out, but it saw massive usage on Twitter as a reaction image that it's fair to consider it a close contender

Congrats to Italy for winning the Meme War after losing the Second World War. Great Comeback!

The moral of the story? Everyone likes tits, especially when they're in places they're not supposed to be.

Aside from "No Bitches" and "What's going on in there" it was no contest.
