Mii, Myself, and I

For me, it was a hard choice between "Me and the boys" and "You are not a clown. You are the entire circus."

I'm going to be straight to the point here, 2019 had a lot of memes this year compared to the amount in other years. This is probably due to most memes nowadays dying quicker than usual.
With that out of the way, here is my list of top 10 2019 memes:

10. Hello Yoshi from Super Mario
9. Sasuke Choke Edits
8. "Bart, I don't want to alarm you"
7. Gonna Cry? Gonna piss your pants maybe?
6. American Dad Speedrun
5. Who's getting the best head?
4. Nordic Gamer / Yes Chad
3. Woman yelling at a cat
2. Me and the boys

And lastly, the best 2019 meme goes to…

Daretobestupid

Oh my god, I can't believe I forgot about the Area 51 raid! Now I'm torn between that and 'Me and the Boys'!

PYRO

Robbie wasn't #1, so who do I go for to vote "Anarchy"?

Daretobestupid

Area 51 raid; fight the power, they can't shoot all of us!

I like Me and the Boys, I really do. But just barely, I voted for Woman Yelling At Cat, because I still crack up at seeing a grown adult yelling at a smirking little shit. Both memes had a lot of creative spins to it too, which made it hard to decide.

After going through the full list (plus adding one notable meme not on the list), here's my personal top and bottom 5 for the year.

5 (Top): Consoomer

The first of the top slots was a rough choice, as there were several that didn't quite make the cusp, such as Epstein Didn't Kill Himself, Woman Yelling At A Cat, or the Bowling Alley Screen When You Get a Strike. I'm giving this one a bit of an edge, though. While the Coomer is more of an absurdist humor that I have a weird soft spot for, the Consoomer, to me, humorously highlights an increasingly-noticeable issue of people with absolutely zero restraint in supporting their favorite IP. Because if companies aren't held to task for releasing mediocrity, then they'll just continue to do so until the end of day. I enjoy quality in my media, dangit.

5 (Bottom): Lunch Table

The first bottom slot could have gone a few ways as well. The ridiculous abundance of Endgame memes, Islam is Right About Women, and Protegent Yes were all considerations, but the Lunch Table is just one of those rare memes that doesn't seem to have potential on paper. It felt more like a Facebook "tag your friends in this photo" type thing than anything else. Thus, it consistently fell flat. At least it died out within a reasonable timeframe.

4 (Top): Robotnik Pissing On the Moon

This may as well count as a 2019 meme, since it pretty much exploded well after it officially originated. That said, this may be one of the greatest improv pieces of recent memory, and is pretty quality copypasta. Unfortunately, I had to knock it down a bit because the 3 memes above it have more wiggle room.

4 (Bottom): Old Town Road

This song didn't deserve the attention it got, never really was humorous. That's all I got here, really.

3 (Top): American Dad Speedrun

This is an example of a meme you either won't find humor in, or you'll find to be brilliant if you actually get the joke. This is far and away the most entertaining parody of the speedrunning community I can think of, and I'm hoping someone figures out how to expand the format so it doesn't die off before reaching its full potential.

3 (Bottom): OK Boomer

While I do enjoy entitled demographics seething as much as the next guy, that's about all the nice things I can say about this meme. It somehow manages to dumb down political discourse even further, and there are very few contexts where it's genuinely amusing to me.

Continued (again):

2 (Top): Storm Area 51

This event was a fun ride. From the ridiculous amount of shitposting leading up to it and the government actually having to issue a warning about it, to the pleasantly wholesome ending, there wasn't really any part of this I can say I hated by any stretch. It was just fun times all around.

2 (Bottom): Baby Yoda

My disdain for this meme comes from a combination from how "plastic" and corporate it feels, on top of how obscenely ubiquitous it's been since its inception. Hopefully it will wear out within a few months and not become a new Thanos, where people keep shitting out new memes based on it for years on end.

1 (Top): Me and the Boys

This choice was not as clear-cut as I thought it was gonna be. This meme had plenty of room for creative potential, and didn't last longer than it needed to, which is very rare in the modern culture of gold egg-laying goose slaughter that is modern meme creation. There were plenty of solid edits, and 60s Spiderman is usually a good time anyway.

Continued (again again):

1 (Bottom): The "Nobody: " Format

Alright, I'm gonna need to take a deep breath for this one, because I AM ANGRY. ANGRY ABOUT MEMES. Let's go over everything that's wrong with this embarrassment of a meme. First: It adds absolutely zero comedic value to anything it gets tacked on. It just makes the user look ridiculous. Second: It's fucking everywhere. Pretty much every comments section on everything ever is infested with this nonsense. And once again, it adds nothing of value. Three: It won't fucking die. I actually had to look when this started, because I thought it started around February or March of this year. But nope, it started late last year, but fuck it, I'm already well into this tirade, and it really got big this year, so I'm counting it, damnit. Anyhow, back to my point, it's been almost a year since this shit really took off, and IT. KEEPS. FUCKING. GOING. FOREVER. AND. FUCKING. EVER. And guess what? We're probably gonna spend at least several more fucking months seeing "HURR NOBODY: I AM CLEVER" literally everywhere. Out of the literal thousands of uses I've had to be subjected to over the past several months, you know how many times this meme was actually humorous? ONLY FUCKING ONE, that being the Organization XIII joke, because that used the format in a genuinely clever manner.

I was going to vote for ¿Quieres? but I felt bias because I created the entry for it, so I went with Well Yes, But Actually No instead.

C_Mill24

Because I couldn't vote for ytp sexer, I chose Lego Yoda.

superjumpman

I picked the storming Area 51 meme cuz it's the most random event happening this year.

0

Nedhitis

While not the funniest meme per se, I would argue that it was the most elaborated and eventful meme of not just this year, but potentially top 10 of the decade on that regard. It really was a rollercoaster and a half.

0

Derptastic Derp Man

This year was definitely the year of a meme overload but it’s hard to choose which of the good memes should be the meme of the year.

I’ll go with Me and the Boys
Second choice is Joker dancing
Third choice is Nick Fury looking at Pink Guy

Cordelius

No one is voting for Area 51? It was the most talked about joke of the year outside of the internet.
