Original Doge NFTs Authenticated By Know Your Meme Set To Be Auctioned Off This Week

Since February this year, meme NFTs have been on the rise selling for hundreds of thousands of dollars. So far, we’ve seen Disaster Girl, Nyan Cat, Pepe and many more, but now, the beloved Doge is hitting the crypto art world for the first time.

Beginning on June 8th and running through Friday, eight one-of-one NFTs from the photoshoot where Doge was first captured will be going up for auction, all from their original owner. Back in early 2010, Japanese kindergarten teacher Atsuko Sato posted these photos of her rescue-adopted Shiba Inu, Kabosu, to her personal blog before they went on to become some of the most well-known images and memes of all time.

In partnership with Zora and Know Your Meme, Sato’s entrance into the NFT space marks the first, legitimate Doge crypto-collectibles to be auctioned off so far. In addition, a portion of the proceeds of Sato's NFTs will go to several charities as part of her and Kabosu’s mission to help children in need all over the world.

This auction is also the first meme NFT authenticated by Know Your Meme to ensure that these images are legit and officially from their true owner. Back in April, May Oswald, who created the original Me Gusta Rage Comic character, had her artwork stolen and uploaded to an NFT marketplace by an impersonator attempting to capitalize on her creation until KYM broke the story and revealed the imposter. By authenticating these NFTs, you can rest assured that they’re straight from Sato and Kabosu.
