I legit thought Steamed Hams was a 2017 meme for a while.
God's sake, this year's been so fucking long.

It technically is, as it really popped up around the end of 2017, but it had a lot of staying power that continued into 2018, and so it's essentially impossible to ignore its status as a 2018 meme.

Hooray, for Steamed Hams! I'm a little sad Kirb didn't make top 15 (placed in 22nd), but at least they are on the list! Can't wait to see what crazy memes 2019 has in stores for us.

Even if it's not what I voted, I'm glad it won. It also was pretty widespread throughout the bulk of 2018's first half, and was able to transcend fandom barriers without coming off as oversaturated. Congratulations, Steamed Hams; I'd say you earned this one.

I'm definitely glad that Steamed Hams took the top spot. It has not only has a ton of variety in the type of jokes that can be made with it (i.e. it's more than just a template to tell the same joke over and over), and I feel like it has a lot more staying power than most of the other contenders. It's been going strong for a long time, and while it isn't quite ubiquitous anymore, I can definitely see it sticking for the long term and continuing to pop up.
