Well, it's week two of 2025, and once again, it's been an insane one. California may be on fire, but you know what else is on fire? Meme culture, that's what! Seriously though, stay safe Californians. Maybe these memes can offer you a much-needed break from the insanity.

This week we've been absolutely flooded with brainrot memes like the "Eye of Rah" and "Property in Egypt." We've also got yet another Squid Game format, some insane talk about renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America" and, of course, a very infectious redraw meme for "When He's Copying Your Snaps."

Here are the five biggest memes of the week that you should be paying attention to.

Eye of Rah

The year has only just begun but already we're getting bombarded with brainrot at an unprecedented level. Case in point, the Eye of Rah.

The Eye of Rah is a Hood Lobotomy meme, which is essentially an avant-garde form of schizoposting that hinges on being as absurd as possible.

In this case, the meme is all about an edit of TikToker Rashad Bowens that makes it look like he has a single eye in the center of his head. On TikTok, it's become a massive subject of edits, while also inspiring redraws across social media.

This is one of those memes that you just kind of have to embrace and roll with. It defies explanation and thrives without it, just like many brainrot formats before it.

Examples

I Bought a Property In Egypt

Speaking of brainrot, a video of a grindset influencer making a very obvious statement about buying property in Egypt has also entered the hallowed halls of the genre this year, and it's got a lot of crossover with the Eye of Rah.

Back in August 2024, influencer Cam Easty posted a video that begins with the incredibly redundant phrase, "I bought a property in Egypt and what they do for you is they give you the property."

He says more stuff after that, but nobody seems to care enough to listen, as it's this cut-off section that's become a meme. The clip went viral on TikTok recently and inspired a wide variety of edits, becoming a perfect brainrot phrase.

Now, the meme is being combined with other recent brainrot formats like the Eye of Rah and Chopped Chin, resulting in some videos that would melt the brain of any Victorian child.

When He's Copying Your Snaps So You Pull This Move

This year has found its first big redraw format and, surprise surprise, it's being used as an excuse for artists to draw their favorite ship pairings flexing.

This trend started last month, but it's taken until recently to really blow up. Back in December, a TikToker posted a meme about a guy copying her Snapchats. Knowing this, the TikToker acts out flexing her bicep to get the copycat to flex his muscle, covertly tricking him into showing his muscles off to her.

While the original video has been deleted, it was scooped up by an X user and redrawn to represent the Genshin Impact ship pairing known as "Haikaveh."

Soon enough, a redraw trend was sparked as artists across social media began posting redraws of their favorite ships tricking each other into flexing. It's a simple format that can be used to represent a seemingly endless number of couples and sure enough, there are already hundreds of examples you can find online.

I've Played These Games Before!

Squid Game season two helped solidify the show yet again as one of the biggest in the world, and the "I've Played These Games Before" format shows us that the series remains a great source for memes.

The meme is based on a scene from the series in which protagonist Seong Gi-hun, who has returned to the Squid Games in an attempt to stop them, yells at the other players, "I've played these games before!"

A lot of people found the English dub pretty funny and turned it into an audio on TikTok and a general meme across social media. Essentially, the phrase is being applied to a wide variety of funny subjects, often to express frustration over someone making a mistake that you've already made in the past.

While it might have started on TikTok, this meme has effectively spread to just about every platform and is being used as everything from a redraw format to a reaction image.

Gulf Of America

Thought you could escape this edition of the Weekly Meme Roundup without a political meme, huh? Wrong, "Gulf of America" is here.

The President-elect has been making a lot of wild claims lately, and one of the most puzzling ones yet came this week when he announced his plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America" for … some reason.

It's a very 'Murica move, and the internet immediately recognized that, causing a flurry of memes about the renaming of the gulf. Some of these memes imagine other places that could use an American renaming, while others are happy to simply get angry and make fun of the President-elect.

You should probably get used to memes like this covering your social media feeds in 2025 because we're only like two weeks in here and already we've got political bangers like Canada becoming the 51st state and the Gulf of America. Buckle up, gang.
