If Boomers wanted to kill the OK Boomer meme, they did a hell of a job. In the past week, "OK Boomer" somehow became an insanely pressing issue in thinkpieces. Even The New York Times got in on the action with an article titled "'OK Boomer' Marks the End of Friendly Generational Relations," adding in the subheading, "Now it’s war: Gen Z has finally snapped over climate change and financial inequality."

The past week has felt like an "OK Boomer" war, as absolutely nuclear takes about "OK Boomer" have turned the timeline into a wasteland. Chief among these takes is the idea that "Boomer" has become a racial slur akin to the N-word. Yes, there are older Twitter users out there who have taken to calling "Boomer" "the b-word." Behold!

This take really sent the whole meme spiraling down the drain. It's just mind-bogglingly awful. It was so bad, even the frickin' Dictionary had to step in.

Meanwhile, "OK Boomer" crawled its way into the ongoing insane Scorsese/Marvel discourse. For those who aren't aware, Scorsese isn't a fan of Marvel movies which made people who have consumed all 4900 Marvel films very upset at the guy who made Taxi Driver, The Departed, Goodfellas, Wolf of Wall Street, and about 800 other movies. People are saying OK Boomer to Martin Goddamn Scorsese.

It's enough to make meme historians weep.

Oh but wait, we're not done. As the meme got dragged to its death by some of the grossest instances of meme misuse since Pokémon GO to the Polls, it had to hit one more stop on its way to meme hell: politics. New Zealand politician Chlöe Swarbrick dropped the phrase in Parliament after she was heckled during a speech on climate change.

RIP "OK Boomer," murdered by Boomers who couldn't handle a little ribbing at their own expense. Yikes.

So does that make a Senior Citizens Discount card the 'b-word pass'?

That first sentence is highly inaccurate. It makes it sound like the Boomers actually managed to kill the OK Boomer meme, when all they actually did was make it stronger by trying to kill it in a pathetic display of immaturity and hypocrisy.

If "OK Boomer" is so offensive to boomers that they liken it to the n-word then that just makes me want to use it more because by and large I can't stand boomers.

I'm not qualified to do it, but someone needs to rewrite this article. The wording is too far "out there"

I agree, this article looks like it was written by someone who low-key (or even high-key) hates the OK Boomer meme.

Thing is "boomers" aren't all one person. Whoever this is being directed at might never have used the word "millennial" in a derogatory way in their lives.

Also, I think that if you have a problem with being called a "millennial", you should try to do better, not become the exact same thing you're complaining about but pointed in the opposite direction.

Then again, really, all "boomer" and "millennial" are really is "word for belittling person I disagree with".

Just new words for "pops" and "dern kids"

For the last how many years now I have heard Boomers say "Millenials" like it's some insult or curse. Now suddenly "Boomer" is the N-Word now.

That's the Boomers for ya…they can dish it out, but they can't take it.
