KYM Review: Best Meme Creators Of 2022
Everybody always asks, "What does this meme mean?" but never, "Who made this meme?" Memes don't just come from nowhere, you know, and the pool of creators is always expanding. Whether we're talking about a TikToker who just can't seem to stop going viral, a webcomic artist with a shitposter's brain or a Redditor with millions of karma, meme makers are everywhere and their work goes largely uncredited across social media — especially if it's being stolen by Elon Musk.
In no particular order, here are some of our favorite meme creators of the year.
Rajshahi Indian Restaurant
The memes by Rajshahi Indian Restaurant have no right to be as dank as they are, yet here they are landing a spot on our list. If you ever want to see a good example of "brand" memes (if you want to consider a single Indian restaurant a brand) this should be your first stop. The formats are fresh, the jokes always hit and the repeated memes about their signature "butt chicken" dish are absolutely mind-boggling in how good they are. Whether you eat there or not, you won't find a much better Instagram follow in 2022.
Kane Pixels
Kane Pixels may not be creating a meme necessarily, but he is creating what's turning out to be one of the greatest analog horror series of all time based on an internet favorite creepypasta turned meme, The Backrooms. The series is called The Backrooms Found Footage and if you haven't checked it out, prepare to be impressed by the sheer production value that's gone into this project. We're talking movie-level stuff here that's helping keep the Backrooms meme fresh years after it exploded onto the web.
Keith Stack
When it comes to webcomic creators, you can't get much better than Keith Stack. This year, Keith gained massive viral success on Twitter with his Leslie and Brianne series, which focuses on the wacky misadventures of a lesbian couple in Yonkers. Stack has inspired a whole fan art movement around the two and frequently references memes in his work. When he's not doing L&B comics, he's often drawing Sonic the Hedgehog, another meme favorite online. The man knows memes and it shows in every inch of his fantastic work.
Abdul Cisse
Some people may disagree with Abdul Cisse's inclusion in this list, but the man is an undeniable force on TikTok. Last year he went viral for his FNAF Beatbox and this year he gained even further acclaim for his bizarrely enticing beatbox covers (and original) songs, particularly covers of songs popular in meme culture. Some of his highlights from the year include the Fortnite Battle Pass Song, a fire Open Verse CHallenge to "Us or the Ps5" and a FNAF parody song about the bite of 87 with CG5.
TickleMyTip
TickleMyTip dominated the Quandale Dingle side of both TikTok and YouTube for months this year with his goofy ahh diatribes where he plays Quandale and members of the DEU (Dingle Extended Universe) and says the most outlandish things possible. The sounds consistently went viral on the apps as original sounds, including a few original rap songs sung as Quandale. The man has a voice that's hard to forget and his content is consistently good and strange, making for endless meme fodder.
Eli_handle_b.wav
Eli_handle_b.wav is a meme creator on YouTube best known for his hilarious, high-effort memes where he places movie characters into video games. This year he had numerous videos gain millions of views each, placing characters like Tony Soprano in The Witcher, Mr. Bean in Cyberpunk 2077 and Kevin McAlister in Resident Evil. Eli has clearly found a niche that works and he's embracing it fully.
RegularNoodles
If you're a regular on Reddit's more popular meme boards, you've probably seen a RegularNoodles' posts before. You may not have even realized it! RegularNoodles is most known for his embedded GIF image macro formats, using fast and eclectic images along with captions ranging from wholesome to childish. Regular has over 5 million Karma on Reddit and it shows, boasting numerous memes with tens and hundreds of thousands of upvotes and moderating a few subreddits as well. If you haven't seen their work, you definitely should.
Artificial Intelligence
Nobody ever said meme creators have to be human and the explosion of AI memes in 2022 proves that sometimes, the best memes are made by robots. Programs like Different Dimension Me, Stable Diffusion and Dall-e took the internet by storm this year, always inspiring thousands of bizarre, hilarious and truly stunning results. Yes, people put in the prompts, but it's the AI that's doing all the work and it would be a shame not to recognize how far the meme landscape has been pushed by the increasing accessibility of AI programs.
