Welcome to the Weekend Wink, where the memes that trended over the weekend are explored and explained, quick as a wink! The last weekend in August has given us a surprising amount of new meme material. It's a bit of a hodgepodge this time with another politically charged CNN meme, a philosophical meta meme about reality being a dream, a gaming meme revolving around Halo 3's rat and another Virgin vs. Chad style meme, all ready to impress. Let's hope this strong lead into September is a sign of good things to come.

CNN "Fiery But Mostly Peaceful Protests Parodies"

CNN Fiery But Mostly Peaceful Protests Parodies is yet another in a long line of CNN-related memes, this time as part of the chyron parodies format. The meme is intended to be taken in a sarcastic, mocking tone, as the caption is only telling a half-truth about the event that has been photoshopped into the background of the original on-air broadcast. There's a lot of potential with this meme, from using it exclusively in political efforts, using it to bash CNN like a callback to the #CNNBlackmail event or innocuously with the reference being something from an anime, game or another piece of pop culture media.

You're Finally Awake

You're Finally Awake is an image macro series that has a bit more to it than just a funny picture — and it even diverges from its own source material. The main phrase is taken from the commonly memed Skyrim line, You're Finally Awake,. The meme postulates that everything that has happened recently is the figment of a dream, and using different characters, it attempts to show how far back in time reality really is by making references to various events or things. This can be best seen in a Pokemon example, which features a character and graphics from a game that came out in 2004.

Halo 3 Rat

Halo 3 Rat is a very simplistic branch off the plethora of Halo memes that date back to the original title. This meme revolves around the very low-resolution rat that was found in Halo 3, which is markedly less detailed than the rest of the game. The Halo 3 Rat is often found contrasting other, more normal pictures, and is itself used as a non sequitur. Technically speaking, it has an infinite number of applicable uses, as it doesn't really need to follow any overarching logic or reason, simply insert the rat into a meme, and press post.

Average Fan vs. Average Enjoyer

Average Fan vs. Average Enjoyer is another variety of the Virgin vs. Chad genre. The purpose of the meme is the stark contrast between the two, as the one on the left is seen as being inferior to the one on the right. This contrast is used in a variety of ways that barely have anything to do with each other, such as comparing apple eaters to pear enjoyers, and doesn't actually accomplish much outside of making very niche references and adding faux superiority on top. Because of this, the meme has a lot of potential use, as it can be used to make just about any type of argument.
