Weekend Meme Update: Little Dark Age, 'Jojo's Stone Ocean,' Trade Offer

This previous weekend we saw a rise in TikTok memes, leading to TikTok being the main force of this weekend's meme roundup. TikTok had two big memes catch fire, with one being the rediscovery of the MGMT track "Little Dark Age" and finding new ways to apply it to today's conventional meme game. Then we had Trade Offer, which originally started as a religious and sports-centric meme before expanding into various genres. But the whole weekend itself could have been entirely TikTok focused had it not been for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure announcing that the anime for the next part, Stone Ocean, is underway.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a very long-running manga and anime series that has hints of multiple different genres within its story. Also, it has a lot of material that is easily used in memes, like snippets used for reactions, as well as memes about the plot itself or overt references to memes in what the characters say. An anime was tried once before, to a lukewarm response, but the refreshed anime has received very positive reviews for over five parts now, leaving fans frothing at the mouth for part six. Titled Stone Ocean, this part was finally revealed, leading to people posting about the series all weekend long.

Little Dark Age

"Little Dark Age" is a song by the band MGMT which came out four years ago, but is now getting attention due to its use in various TikToks. This isn't the first time that a song has gotten big due to TikTok, as the same thing can be attributed to Lil Nas X and his meteoric rise to musical fame. One of the ways that the song has been used is in conjunction with the "Time Warp" filter, while others use it simply as background noise to a stereotypical meme video where they do something goofy. MGMT is no stranger to being featured in memes, as their song "Kids" was used a lot during the Vine era.

Trade Offer

Another big TikTok meme this time around is Trade Offer. In this meme, you will see a person showing two different objects after the NBA draft alarm sound goes off, signaling that a trade deal is about to be made. The still image of the creator, Bradeazy, in the middle of said trade offer has itself become a meme template, as it is very easy to throw together some text and a few pictures to create a new variant on the format. The meme now can be found in either of the formats, which has helped increase its spread across Facebook and other social media sites.
