Did you watch the Super Bowl? Have you been online in the past day? If the answer to either of those questions is yes, you've likely already seen a picture or video snippet from The Weeknd's Super Bowl halftime show. One of the biggest events of the year, the Super Bowl usually dominates the meme airwaves for the following week or two, and this one was no exception.

However, Super Bowl LV was not the only source of memes this week, as we had two others come up over the weekend: Dairy Queen Lips Advertisement Edits and Demake / Demastered. Let's dig into them.

The Weeknd Super Bowl Halftime Show

The Weeknd's Super Bowl halftime show was a highly anticipated event for many of The Weeknd's fans, as he has been playing a sort of character in every performance and public appearance this past year. Many were waiting for the halftime show, which happens in the middle of every Super Bowl, to see if he would continue the persona, if he would have a guest musician join him on stage per tradition, or how he would be able to do a big performance with COVID restrictions in place.

The Weeknd had this figured out and more, and in the middle of his performance when he brings the camera into a hall of brightly lit mirrors, gave everyone the newest meme format. This meme comes in two varieties, a short video format of him walking into the mirrored corridor looking around confused, and a close up of him staring into the camera while askew.

Dairy Queen Lips Advertisement Edits

Dairy Queen Lips Advertisement Edits is a similar meme to the GrubHub Delivery Dance in that a commercial entity pushed something out that was picked up by meme creators. Interestingly enough, the Dairy Queen edits pre-date the Grub Hub ones, making it appear as though these two memes helped feed each other, with Dairy Queen being the protomeme to GrubHub, and GrubHub helping bring more attention to Dairy Queen.

The nature of the meme edits is more shocking and disturbing in nature to the initial GrubHub edits, but they are still a source of a rising number of video memes.

Demake / Demaster

Demake / Demaster is fake history taken a step further. Instead of simply having a modern picture and claiming that it is an ancient event, the pictures themselves are made from the ground up to imitate an aged look. This is done with video games and bucks the current trend of many remastered editions of older games coming out in the past decade.

A beloved game franchise that doesn't have any recent game drops might find itself ported to newer consoles via "a remastered collection," which is when you buy the same game for a high price because it looks better and runs on your new machine. The inverse of this would be the various "Demastered" memes, in which current video games are redesigned as if they were made for the Atari Jaguar or Sega Saturn. These memes can sometimes simply be a picture or two but are more than often a full video showing the high amount of effort that went into each one.
