Weekend Meme Roundup: Sora In 'Smash,' Lindsay Lohan Furry NFT, 'Squid Game'
Welcome to the Weekend Meme Roundup, where all the big memes of the weekend are rounded up in one spot for close examination. This weekend was entirely focused on online content, as Lindsay Lohan hyped up an NFT release with furry art, South Korea struck a chord with their Netflix series Squid Game and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate released the final fighter of the game's lifespan: fan-favorite and top of the rankings Sora from Kingdom Hearts.
Squid Game
Squid Game is a South Korean Netflix show in which a group of people compete in various schoolyard games to win a large amount of money or die trying. While it has been compared to The Hunger Games and Alice In Borderlands, the premise and show have entirely captivated the online audience. A sub-meme has even spawned from it via the Red Light, Green Light Doll from the first episode, as well as the Dalgona Candy Challenge on TikTok.
Sora In Smash
Sora In Smash has been a collective call from the Super Smash Bros. fanbase for quite some time, and their dreams were hoping to finally be realized with the announcement that the last fighter for the current life cycle of the game would be announced today. Ahead of the reveal over the weekend, memes were made to point to reasons why Sora should be included, and there was a large effort to get people swayed towards their side over those who wanted Doomguy to be the one added instead. The fans were finally given their respite, as Sora was announced to be the last fighter to be added to SSBU, spawning yet another wave of memes on the topic.
Lindsay Lohan Furry NFT
Lindsay Lohan's furry NFT refers to the actual NFT of a furry depiction of Lindsay Lohan that was personally endorsed late last week. This move, understandably, baffled just about everyone who heard of it. While NFTs have started to once again increase in visibility and prices, a celebrity like Lohan not only coming out in support of an NFT but also potentially outing herself as a furry and selling her fursona was too much for many to handle. At the same time, there were plenty who were making memes and poking fun at how horribly made the NFT was compared to higher-quality furry art.
