Weekend Meme Roundup: Shut Up Brain, 'Eurovision,' Adrian's Kickback
This previous week was one that was full of big IRL moments. While there was still one online-only meme component in form of Shut Up Brain, the other two big topics took place in the real world. The first big topic that was gaining steam heading into the weekend was the return of the Eurovision singing competition. While that was taking place and making a splash in Europe, over in America was a different type of real-world event. This was the giant party known as "Adrian's Kickback," which had significant buzz before, during and after the event.
Eurovision
Eurovision is an annual song contest in Europe that allows contestants from several countries (even non-European ones) to compete to see which is the best by securing the most votes. While there have been several controversies in the past, the show itself still gets millions of views a year. With 2020 getting skipped due to the pandemic, there were a lot of eyes on the 2021 season. This, naturally, also means that a lot of memes about the results and performances were soon to follow.
Adrian's Kickback
Adrian's Kickback is the name given to a party that took place in Huntington Beach, California over the weekend. With an open and public invite posted on May 18th for a party that was supposed to happen on the 22nd, no one could have expected that over 2,500 people would show up. The party quickly got out of control and spawned a bunch of memes about it, the wildness and people who supposedly showed up.
Shut Up Brain
Shut Up Brain is another for the list of exploitable image formats. It is often used as a reaction to one's own thoughts, such as depressive ones or a sudden realization that the person would rather not think of. Simple and to the point, this kind of meme has a lot of potential going forward due to its sheer versatility.
