With four days left to go until Christmas, it's a good time to take a look at the four best memes to come out this past weekend. The genres present were pretty varied between government, Twitter, a retro Instagram callback and a cartoon. Surprisingly, none of the memes are related to the holiday season in the slightest, which only speaks volumes to how weird 2020 has been. The big memes of the past weekend were December 21st Black Superpowers, $600 Stimmy, The Dock of Shame and I Said We Sad Today.

Negro Solstice / On December 21st Our Real DNA Will Be Unlocked

The Negro Solstice is called that because December 21st is supposed to be the day that superpowers are unlocked in black people. This declaration came from one of the strongest scientific minds we have, a Twitter anti-vaxxer, so take it as you will. Hype and anticipation mounted as the calendar kept creeping closer to the mythical day. If you're reading this, then the superpowers never happened because the internet would be shut down to try and contain the collective information sharing on how to best use them to rise up. It'll be short-lived, but some of the humorous responses to it have produced quality memes.

$600 Stimmy

It's been quite some time since the first stimulus package was introduced that gave Americans $1,200 per adult. Recent reports were saying that the second stimulus would only be a paltry $600, prompting the meme $600 Stimmy to make fun of how out of touch the politicians are … and how out of time we all are. Until new reports come out, or even the stimulus bill itself, expect this meme to continue for a while longer, as the harder things get, the more people will complain about them.

The Dock of Shame

The Dock of Shame comes from the kid's television show Total Drama Island and is where the campers who were voted off the show disembarked from. In this meme format, a person, real or fictional, is sent to the "dock of shame," often without some sort of message as to why they are being sent there. This led people to ask in comments and replies as to what's going on, helping to spread the meme. This format is very versatile, as there is seemingly no end to the number of people, or reasons, to send someone to the dock of shame or cancel them.

I Said We Sad Today

I Said We Sad Today is a meme format that takes a still from an Instagram short video and uses it as a meme template. While the original video didn't say anything about being sad, that happened to be the variation of the meme that took off, possibly due to 2020 just being that kind of year. The setup is a fairly simplistic one, but there is creativity in trying to find out how to make the context fit around the punchline. Due to that, some variations have the sadness stripped away, replaced with something else entirely. With Christmas coming up, it may be possible to keep the sad vibes, so expect this meme to fall off in the next few days but possibly reemerge in the near future.
