Weekend Meme Roundup: Bean Dad, Mitch McConnell, Goku Drip

Welcome to 2021! We did it! The coronavirus is gone, everyone is outside frolicking in the meadows and Elon Musk has started to tweet normal things again … at least, that's what the memes last week would have wanted you to believe would happen.

Unfortunately, none of these things happened overnight, and many memes of the new year were made to show just that. Apart from those about the new year, we also had Bean Dad, Mitch McConnell and Goku Drip show a prominent rise over the weekend and into today. See for yourself below.

Goku Drip

Goku Drip started out as just a simple fan art depiction of Goku from Dragon Ball dressed in Supreme gear. However, it quickly spread to being any anime or video game character in either the same style of gear or similar clothes that have a shockingly large aura of smug swagger. While at first, this seems like a very simplistic meme that won't last, but it's exactly these types that can have a surprising amount of staying power. It's a chance to just showcase your favorite character looking fitted with their drip.

Mitch McConnell

Mitch McConnell is a man of many memes. In the past few years, he's had memes made about his hands, his purported ties to foreign governments and various others. Barely a day into the new year and he once again found himself with many new memes revolved around him. This time, however, it's for his role in the infamous $600 Stimmy. But just like NBA 2K, everyone was left with disappointment after many blamed McConnell for blocking additional funds. This has, predictably, led to social media outcry, and many memes comparing him to a scrooge-type villainous character were made, and seen, everywhere.

Bean Dad

Bean Dad is the name given to John Roderick after he shared a story about a time he tried to teach his daughter a lesson involving beans. This sharing of the parenting moment led to others digging through his old posts, and the series of events ended with his song no longer being the theme song to another known podcast. This meme follows the known pattern that has been in place for years now, and as such, will likely persist as a meme until a different figure of notable fame does something else to earn the ire of social media. For the time being, there are plenty of Bean Dad memes to pass around the campfire.
