Brooklyn Nine-Nine isn’t your average procedural cop show. Here, you won’t see detectives wearing sunglasses at night or avenging the murder of their wives. Instead, it’s a laid-back comedy about the overly enthusiastic detective Jake Peralta (played by Andy Samberg), the emotionless Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) and the rest of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct as they seek to waste tax dollars on donuts and avoid getting any actual work done.

Often compared to The Office and Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has the honor of being the only one of the three classics still airing today. Back in 2018, the show was actually going to be canceled, only for its fan base to petition it back into existence at NBC.

Needless to say, there are a lot of loyal Brooklyn Nine-Nine viewers out there who quote it regularly, and that’s led to some notable meme formats, both famous and obscure. Here are two of the best episodes to find meme content while you're watching B99.

The quotes in this episode are some of the most memorable of the show’s entire lifespan. On the day of Captain Holt’s birthday, all his co-workers are invited to his house for a party, where they can embarrass him, themselves and everyone else in front of his sophisticated friends and husband. One of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s most famous meme formats consists of the quote "Ooh, self-burn! Those are rare!" which is said in this episode in response to Melissa Fumero’s character, Amy Santiago, telling the group she’d been voted "most appropriate" in high school.

This isn’t the only meme to come from a quote in this episode. Everything from Jake’s line "I’d like your eight dollar-est bottle of wine, please" to "Don’t move as a group! You’re not gazelles" has become a viral meme. Perhaps the most underappreciated source of meme content in this episode is the civilian administrator Gina, who has a number of bizarre lines that are hard to forget throughout this episode. "I was thinking how I would make the perfect American president, based upon my skill set, dance ability and bloodlust" is one memorable quote, along with "My mother cried the day I was born because she knew she would never be better than me," and we also learn about her not-so-secret desire to see Richard Dreyfuss hunkered over eating dog food. Gina’s unexplainable quotes always make great memes, and there’s no better episode to find them than "The Party."

Most Meme Potential: Season 5, Episode 17: "DFW"

There’s one famous meme from this episode, and it has nothing to do with its plot or quotes whatsoever. Instead, it lives on through a single scene at the very beginning of the episode where Jake makes a line-up of suspected murderers sing "I Want It That Way" by The Backstreet Boys with impressive harmony. These five instant stars have amassed their own fan base existing independently of the show, and even those who have never seen Brooklyn Nine-Nine have likely come across this scene in a clip or meme.

Most are too hung up on the cold-open to care for the rest of the episode, but there are a few gems there as well. The plot involves Jake’s long-lost sister appearing only to irritate everyone around her. This episode is sure to bring joy to those who love dark memes about the dynamics of a miserable, collapsing family. If that isn’t your favorite, then learning about "the real New York experience" of getting wasted at Olive Garden or a theory about Kanye West being a cannibal might be up your alley instead — educate yourself on both of these with the rest of this episode.
