Editor's Note: This entry contains spoilers for Rick and Morty season five; read at your own caution.

Rick and Morty has been deeply intertwined with the meme community since it first aired. Dozens of formats and viral references come from the show's first four seasons, but now that season five has just ended, we're about to see a whole lot more appear. This season has left fans feeling conflicted, but with an ending that no one expected, there's a lot of good there too, from fan-favorite Captain Planet knock-off Planetina to a Thanksgiving-themed episode (airing in July) devoted to turning into turkeys.

Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s show has taken an eventful turn in this new season, and there are already thousands of memes out there, with many more to come. Whether you love or hate this season, it’s left us with an ending we won’t forget, and an internet legacy to live on as we wait for season six. Here are some of the episodes of the new season that have led to the most memes.

Honestly, if I explained this episode in detail, this page would be demonetized. No one wants to hear what Morty did in the horse hospital. But basically, there’s now a giant incest baby floating in space, and for some reason, it didn’t come back up in the finale. It’s just part of Rick and Morty lore now … drifting through the universe for all eternity without explanation. Fans of the show really want to know — why did the writers do this? Was there a purpose to the giant incest baby? Was it just meant to punish us, as fans? Or was it made just to lead to dozens of memes, which it apparently has?

This is, by far, the most controversial episode of the season. The perception of it by fans is also divisive, with many enjoying the twisted humor while a vast majority despised it. It’s also generally voted the worst Rick and Morty episode of all time, even ranking behind that awful dragon episode. But it's still got its moments, from directly discussing trebuchets (the meme community’s favorite siege weapon) to everyone teaching Summer an awkward lesson on what it means to be a woman. And then, of course, there's Naruto Smith and Rick's half-horse half-human child.

Most Meme Potential: Season 5, Episode 10: "Rickmurai Jack"

The finale hasn't quite sunk in yet, airing over the weekend on Sunday night. It was a lot to process. Episodes nine and 10 aired back to back on Adult Swim, so we only had a commercial break to understand Rick actually chose two crows over Morty. Unlike the episode about the sperm monsters, I plan on explaining this a little, so obviously, spoiler alert. Basically, Evil Morty is back, and he's essentially broken the multiverse. And Rick's two crows cheated on him.

Essentially, this episode plays off a fleetingly mentioned concept from the earlier seasons known as the central finite curve. This is the portion of the multiverse Rick and Morty have been able to access during the show, since universes where Rick is not the smartest person are blocked from entry by the Citadel of Ricks. Evil Morty seeks to escape this once and for all, and in the process, Rick's entire backstory is revealed. Basically, it's exactly what fans were asking for, especially the information about Rick's wife Diane's fate. Evil Morty's return, Rick's surprisingly emotional backstory, the crows and really anything from this episode can and should become a meme. It won't be long now before we've got memes about the finale everywhere.

You can really tell Justin's trying his hardest to get rid of the shitbag stans.
The existentially depressing stuff is still good but those filler episodes almost feel deliberately unfunny… the "Captain Planet" episode in particular was just a bunch of stuff that happened with a few action scenes and weird alien sexual things. Basically a Marvel movie.
