BoJack Horseman is a Netflix Original Series about a former television actor who hates his life and struggles with addiction. In this universe, characters can be either human or anthropomorphic animals, and they all interact just as regular people do (just go with it, and definitely don't think about this too hard). As the series progresses, BoJack tries to make a comeback while falling deeper into the hole he’s dug himself.

Watching BoJack Horseman is an incredibly depressing experience that leaves you wanting more, and eventually, it becomes impossible to stop watching the disaster unfold. As you near the end of the series, you will become one with BoJack’s friends, watching helplessly in concern and horror. If it’s not clear, this is a comedy, but it’s also a very dark drama and has been famous in the world of memes for quite some time.

BoJack Horseman is perhaps best known in memes for Mr. Peanutbutter’s quote, "What is this, a crossover episode?" that appears throughout the series and became a famous reaction image. However, there are many more popular memes from the show itself that aren’t as easy to find. Here are the top episodes to watch for the best meme material.

You probably know the famous meme of BoJack in his Boat, but if you don’t know what built up to it, you’re missing a crucial piece of context in understanding the meme. In this episode, BoJack decides to run off to New Mexico in search of a woman he had a romantic interest in decades prior. He discovers she is married with children but decides to stick around for months anyway. The bizarre situation itself can lead to endless jokes, but it gets much worse.

"Escape from LA" is a problematic (but infamous) episode because it shows us just how horrible BoJack actually is. His greatest hits from this episode include dumping a teenager with alcohol poisoning on the steps of the hospital, kissing a married woman and traumatizing her 17-year-old daughter for life. Like an action movie hero walking away from the exploding building, BoJack lounges on his boat sunglasses on his face and a beer in hand, a truck towing him down the highway so he can escape before a very angry mother calls the police on him. We never said this meme was wholesome, but it sure takes on a whole new meaning for fans of the show.

Most Meme Potential: Season 1, Episode 2: "BoJack Hates The Troops"

This episode sparks two memes that fit great with our dark senses of humor. The first appears at the very beginning of the episode where a depressed BoJack is seated at a bar. The bartender instructs him to "say when" as he pours him a drink. BoJack watches, dejected, as the cup overflows and spills onto the floor. He watches alcohol spill all over the counter and floor for a few more seconds, then calmly says, "When." This particular scene makes a great two-panel reaction image for any situation leaving you with existential dread.

The main conflict of this episode arises from BoJack buying donuts at the supermarket that a Navy Seal had dibs on. When interviewed about the controversy, BoJack says can’t return the donuts, as he has eaten all of them already. "I have no self-control and I hate myself," he explains. This is probably one of the most relatable quotes ever spoken by a character in television, and there are some memes out there already incorporating the line (and it’s being sold on T-shirts, apparently), but the joke hasn’t caught on as much as it deserves to.

The biggest cultural lie inflicted upon this decade is that this show was good in any aspect instead of the ugly unfunny un-smart thing it is. It is just trash and I felt myself angered I was tricked into watching it by Reddit. Since then I always assume any show they like it is pure trash, and it hasn't failed me once. Once!
