Pot Roast was a beloved TikTok cat. The unconventional name suited her, as she was a strange-looking cat with long fur that always seemed a little ragged from food remains and a lifetime of laziness. She was cranky, crusty, and adorable. She always seemed a little dirty, not because she wasn’t kept clean, but because she was a goblin. She had nearly a million followers on TikTok, and all of them felt that Pot Roast brightened their day. She was the younger generation’s Grumpy Cat.

Pot Roast began to look more frail and dirty over time. In the past month or so, her owner had been sharing updates on Pot Roast’s health, especially after a vet visit in which Pot Roast was diagnosed with Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which has effects similar to AIDS in humans. On February 16th, we lost Pot Roast, and the internet is mourning. Pot Roast’s legacy continues on anyway through the account @potroastsmom. Now, we can honor her memory through her many TikToks. In light of all of this, here’s one that aged like milk. Uploaded one month ago, this video discusses how Pot Roast didn’t die. “So relax, she’s living. As much as anyone who died years ago could be living.”

Pot Roast wasn’t ultimately that different from other internet cats, but we loved her all the same. She was moody, loved treats, occasionally attacked her owner, and spent the rest of her time lounging around looking adorable. In essence, she was kind of "scrungy," and it’s just the kind of content we all were looking for to get us through these tough times. And now that the pandemic has slowed a little, she’s finally found her time to leave us.

Pot Roast’s mom would do lots of Q and A style videos responding to questions from Pot Roast fans, always accompanied by Pot Roast at her side. Some responses were sarcastic, while others were genuine and deep. Over the years, viewers have gotten a great sense of who Pot Roast is and why she’s loved so much by her owner, particularly through these Q and A videos where Pot Roast supervises every answer.

Pot Roast’s TikTok history spans years. She’s consistently gained popularity over the years, and fans love to watch her odd behavior and theorize about her health and mood. No one could quite understand why Pot Roast, a cat who was well-cared-for, seemed so raggedy. One of her earlier viral videos of her was this one, where viewers finally had some of their questions answered about what kind of cat Pot Roast is. It still didn’t explain why she looks the way she does, though. But her mom’s snarky comments about Pot Roast being 1 percent Bengal also earned some appreciation by the meme community.

Even though Pot Roast is gone, her memory still lives on. In our minds, she’ll always be her old, crotchety self. She’ll always have that beard of caked canned food, always frowning at the camera and staring blankly. We’ll never stop enjoying the videos about her strange behavior or odd interactions with her owner. We’ll always love Pot Roast, and the memes and TikToks will continue to honor her memory, even though we’re pretty sure Pot Roast couldn’t care less about all that.
