Washington, D.C. Hotel Introduces Mukbang Package to Stuff Your Face
The fine art of eating on camera has long been a YouTube favorite. Since about 2018, thousands of aspiring web stars have shoveled meal after meal down their gullets for mukbang videos, also known as eatcast. But while the genre isn't for those with a weak stomach, over the last decade, it has grown into one of the world's most popular forms of web video, providing lonely diners at home with the company of a YouTuber that eats along with you.
Becoming a mukbang superstar is no longer subject to the gatekeeping eateratti. The W Hotel in Washington, D.C. now offers an in-room mukbang experience for those looking to pay a premium to pig out in front of the camera. The room service menu's "Sip & Slurp" mukbang experience will run you about $295 (before taxes), which is actually a small price to pay for the experience of letting the world listen to you chew. But mukbangers at the W aren't just getting dinner, the hotel provides you with a full webcast experience that includes a phone stand and lavalier mic.
But what's a stunt menu item without a Netflix star to promote it? The W's got us covered, inviting Queer Eye Antoni Porowski for his first mukbang video, giving him a chance to hock the hotel's smorgasbord of meats and cheeses that will leave you properly gassy for your trip to the nation's captial.
What's on the W's mukbang "Slip & Slurp" menu, you ask. Well, it's enough to feed a small nation, so long as that nation is not one populated by mukbangers. Here's the menu, according to The Verge:
* Aloha Y’All: tasso ham, caramelized pineapple, tomato, basil, mozzarella
* Farmhouse Quaker: smoked mozzarella, potato, red onions, crispy duck, farm egg
* Cherry Burger: 0.5 lb house blend Creekstone Farms beef, red onion marmalade, raclette, Dijonnaise
* The Big Belly Burger: double beef patties, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, pickles & W1 sauce
* Old School Surf & Turf: filet mignon, butter-poached lobster tail, steak fries
* Cheese & Charcuterie Board: pickles, mustard, breads, crackers, compote
* XL Crispy French Fries: truffle aioli
* Carrot Cake Tower: sweet carrot sauce, streusel
* Just Like Grandma’s Cherry Pie: served on cast iron with vanilla ice cream
The Verge also notes that after taxes, you're looking at a near $400 room service bill. But you did let the world see you chew on something called the "Big Belly Burger," so you're actually making money in clout.
