It's safe to say that Pokémon has had a difficult hype cycle for Pokémon Sword and Shield, as every new trailer for the game has seemed to raise some sort of controversy. First, the National Pokédex was stricken from the games, which caused an anti-hype train that is still rumbling along quite loudly. Then, they revealed the gym leader Nessa, which led to a dramatic debate in the fan art community about how PoC video game characters should be drawn. They also introduced the "Dynamax" mechanic, which makes Pokémon very, very big, and ditched the popular Mega Evolution mechanic which has been popular since the sixth generation of games.

However, the Pokémon team may have finally released a trailer which satisfied everyone with this morning's advertisement that showed off Galar-specific variations of classic Pokémon Weezing, Zigzagoon, and Linoone, introduced an adorable electric mouse Pokémon called Morpeko whose "Hangry" variation turns it into a Nightmare Before Christmas-looking monster, and Team Yell, a bumbling bunch of hooligans which appear to be the games' main antagonistic group.

There's a lot to like in this new trailer, and fan response so far has been largely positive. Fans have particularly gravitated towards the Galar variations of Weezing and the Zigzagoon line, joking about the former's goofy top hats and the latter's resemblance to the rock band Kiss.

People also related to Morpeko's two moods:

Finally, Team Yell and their idol Marnie amused the fan base, who saw several possible sources of inspiration for the group:

Overall, the August 7th trailer has proved to be one Sword and Shield's most successful date, judging by the highly scientific memes-to-pissed off tweets ratio. With three months until release, this latest trailer seems to be a good step in the right direction for the Pokémon marketing team.

Winday, Furries Pirate

So a Pokemon with top hat is the star instead of literally KISS Pokemon.

It got the memes, but obstagoon is by far the most popular of the two.

So are extremely long/tall regional variants going to be a regular thing from now on? First Alolan Exeggutor, now Galarian Weezing.

I'm amused that Twitter is making Team Yell out to be the part of the fanbase that wants the series to stop hemorrhaging features because when I heard "obsessive fans that attack anyone that they perceive as disliking their idol" the first thing I thought of was K-Pop
