Ellen DeGeneres has not been in the internet's good graces ever since her controversial photo with former President George W. Bush and recently joined the parade of celebrities embarrassing themselves during the Coronavirus quarantines when she compared life in her home to prison.

Like many talk show hosts, Ellen has taken to attempting to make a version of her show work while she's stuck at home. While giving her regular opening monologue, Ellen joked “This is like being in jail is what it is. It’s mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and everyone in here is gay.”

As John Mulaney once said, we don't have time to unpack all of that, but suffice to say, the internet was extremely displeased that Ellen compared her life in a beautiful, $27 million house to literal prison.

The video of her joke has been taken down. With at least a few more weeks of social distancing to go, here's hoping celebrities stop trying to be helpful with quips and empty gestures.

I kinda understand where she's coming from, but at the same time I am astounded by the lack of self-awareness here, she comes across as massively out of touch if she think that the comparison is apt.

Definitely Symphony of the Night. I'd recognize those levels anywhere.

Proper Initiation

The thing that scares me about prison is actually that I'm locked in a cage with a bunch of other people.

Oh no! Those poor, poor celebrities stuck in their multi-million dollar hous-err, prisons! Whatever are they to do?

On one hand, rich people also can have their own mental health problems and dismissal of such fact only leads to the rich having, in turn, less empathy for the problems of others. Some problems are easier to handle if you have money and others are just the same.

On the other hand, FUCK RIGHT OFF. Imagine having a house that big for no fucking reason. I can tell they spend no time in their homes because these people did not put anything in those mansions to entertain themselves, only stuff that makes them look richer.
