Another Nintendo E3 presentation goes in the books, and another cycle of post-E3 hype begins. Nintendo has a habit of casually blowing its competition out of the water at these things, generating hype with their Nintendo Direct presentations instead of in-person powerpoints and alleged audience plants. Let's dive right into the big news from today's Direct, shall we?

Banjo-Kazooie and Dragon Quest Characters are Coming to Smash Ultimate

Nintendo appeared to get the expected Smash Ultimate news out of the way early when they led the Direct with the announcement of Dragon Quest characters coming to the roster. This was met with mixed reaction on Twitter. Not everyone was thrilled to see characters from a series mostly popular in Japan enter Smash, especially when other, more globally popular and long-awaited characters had been rumored.

However, Masahiro "Don't Ask Me for Anything Ever Again" Sakurai saved the big news for last when, yes, Banjo Kazooie was finally announced as a Smash Brothers character. This was met with, shall we say, considerably more enthusiasm.

May all Smash fans be at peace. For now.

Breath of the Wild Sequel Is In Development

Nintendo saved the classic E3 "oh, just one more thing" bait-and-switch at the end of the Direct to announce that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in development. The two-minute trailer had creepy music and a Lich King-like enemy, and showed Link and Zelda working together, perhaps suggesting that Zelda will be a much more integral part in the follow-up's story. However, while details are obviously scant at the moment, let's take a look at the hype:

Luigi's Mansion 3 Introduces "Gooigi" Mechanic

Luigi's Mansion 3 will take place in a hotel and appears to have retained all the charm that has kept the series as an underdog Nintendo favorite, but fans were quick to joke about a new mechanic to the series: Gooigi. Gooigi is a Luigi doppelganger made of, well, goo that a player will have to utilize to solve certain puzzles in the game, but that's only part of why fans were hyped.

Animal Crossing Beautiful, but Delayed

Animal Crossing fans have been waiting years for a new game, and while Nintendo said they had to delay the release date for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to March of 2020, they did show some gameplay footage that got fans excited.

The Rest

Other notable titles like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Panzer Dragon, No More Heroes 3, Resident Evil 5 and 6, Link's Awakening all made cameos in the Direct, leading to an overall very exciting presentation. In conclusion, Nintendo Fans right now:

Now all we need is Cuphead in Smash…

AKADarkie

Everyone's making a ruckus out of Banjo and Kazooie being in Smash, and I'm just over here masturbating to Seiken Densetsu 3 (AKA Trials of Mana) finally getting released outside of Japan.

That said, Nintendo was excellent this year, even by Nintendo standards.

Empire of Sin might be the most overlooked game this E3.

perhaps. what little gameplay they showed looked like a mobile game

If you go on the steam page, based on the screenshots and description of the game, it seems like it's going to be less like mafia city and more like a mafia-themed XCOM.

My Nintendo Direct highlights:
The heroes of Dragon quest finally join smash
Luigi has to fight the ghost of Hotal Mario in Tartarus from Persona 3
Fire Emblem Academia is coming soon
No More Heroes is officially back
Mario and Sonic are back at the Olympics, this time wearing actual sports wear
New Animal Crossing has you set up Nooks island country (and was delayed to March 2020)
Bunch of ports
Sequel to Breath of the Wild is in the works
also some bear and his Bird are in smash but who cares

This E3 was a letdown for me. Even the big games that got all the cheers didn't get me excited. It looked like I was just too cynical to enjoy E3 anymore.

Then, Nintendo showed their stuff and I loved it.

So, pretty much like every E3 for the last few years.

No, it's not just you. This was a particularly bad E3.

I don't remember the last time E3 made me bust a nut, so not just you.

konami even had some time spared for a special announcement after nintendo's presentation. and all they had to show was a turbogrfx16 mini. the thing that nintendo already did TWICE. and only naming 6 games that will be officially ported to it.

My reaction to the Animal Crosing release date was along the lines of "…MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM-- I'm actually okay with this." I'll have Super Mario Maker holding me off for SwSh, which can hold me off for ACNH and PSO2 NA.
