Oomer Wojaks. If you haven't seen them until now, you probably have been taking a long break from the internet for the past year and a half. Ever since 4chan's /biz/ board came up with the 30-Year-Old Boomer in April 2018, and with Zoomer and Doomer joining in to keep him company later that year, the Oomer family has been acquiring new members each month, if not each week.

Bloomer, Gloomer, Coomer, Consoomer and many other less known Wojaks are all united by some degree of relatability, exhibiting the characteristics one could recognize in strangers, acquaintances, friends or even themselves.

By January 2020, the Oomers grew so numerous that the format drew comparisons to Rage Comics, particularly due to the rise of Doomer Girl memes. Love or hate Oomers, they are a part of the late 2010s internet culture that is not going anywhere soon, so here is a guide that will help you distinguish between Zoomers, Bloomers, Coomers and the rest.

30-Year-Old Boomer

The 30-Year-Old Boomer is the oldest and one of the better-known Oomers. The 30-Year-Old Boomer is a jab at those guys in their late 20s and early 30s who have already fallen victim to only liking things that they appreciated in the 1990s, like playing the classic shooters Quake and Doom and listening to heavy metal bands such as AC/DC and Metallica. Nothing tickles the fancy of a 30-Year-Old Boomer more than waking up early on a Saturday morning, revving up his trusty lawnmower and blasting some "Thunderstruck" all over the neighborhood. There is only one tiny detail missing – a cold can of Monster Energy drink. Zero Ultra, of course.

Zoomer

The second Oomer Wojak to be born, and the main reason why Internet calls Gen Z "zoomers," Zoomer is everything that the 30-Year-Old Boomer isn't. He's young, impressionable, sports a fade haircut and a pair of round glasses. Zoomer fancies modern rap music and Fortnite, and will inevitably start flossing if left to himself for longer than five minutes. In memes, Zoomer is often the victim of the 30-Year-Old Boomer, forced to tolerate the latter drowning out his favorite stream with the sounds of heavy metal and grass being mowed.

Doomer

No, Doomer isn't some guy who likes to play Doom. He is a pessimistic outcast who gave up on fitting in and have chosen to stoically struggle through his life without any pursuit of happiness. He works at a minimum wage job and indulges in excessive smoking and alcohol consumption to help himself cope. He spends his evenings at home, either browsing forums and imageboards, watching kino or failing to rediscover joy in things he once used to love, going out for an occasional /nightwalk/ from time to time. Nihilistic and defeated, he doesn't think he will ever find love – even if he made any effort towards it.

To get a better idea, look at Ryan Gosling in Drive and Blade Runner: 2049. These characters are who Doomers associate themselves with to a degree: brooding, suffering and accepting that the world has no happiness in store for them.

Bloomer

Bloomer is someone who rose above the nihilism and defeatism of the Doomer and rediscovered happiness in simple things such as taking a stroll, hanging out with friends and just being nice to other people. He might be still stuck in a dead-end job and carry around his dark past, but he is motivated to improve himself and to become a better person both in his own eyes and in the eyes of those around him. He should be careful not to turn into a Broken Bloomer, though.

Coomer

Coomer loves porn too much. A guy with an unkempt beard, bloodshot eyes and an "extremely aesthetic right arm," Coomer is preoccupied with the single goal in his life: to masturbate to porn as much as possible, as often as possible.

While his predecessors were archetypes that were meant to associate with, Coomer, born during the peak of the anti-pornography wave which rose up on 4chan during summer 2019, is meant to belittle and ridicule those who indulge in watching too much porn. Coomer has been a frequent guest in anti-porn posts on 4chan, Gab and deep iFunny, also appearing in many No Nut November memes that year.

Doomer Girl

Doomer Girl is not your regular Oomer meme, but a very influential one nonetheless. Unlike her many predecessors, Doomer Girl didn't come from 4chan, skipped "The X Year Old Doomer Girl" part and started her meme career with interacting with the Doomer in the vein of Yes Chad memes. Many on Facebook, Twitter and iFunny quickly deemed the first few non-ironic edits cringy and proceeded to make hundreds of memes which made fun of the Doomer, who itself was simplified to "tf no gf." The development, combined with the abundance of previous Oomers and Yes Chad memes, reminded many of the Rage Comics, with memes hailing Oomers as "Rage Comics 2: The Electric Boogaloo" soon being brought into the mix.

Lesser Oomers

In addition to the major Oomers, many lesser ones were born on 4chan, Facebook and other websites along the way.

  • Go-Getter is very similar to Bloomer – he is a Doomer who is in the process of getting his life together, focused on setting and achieving goals.

  • Consoomer consumes popular culture similar to how Coomer consumes porn. Usually a millennial in his 30s or 40s, Consoomer is a fan of superhero films and Star Wars, has an ever-growing collection of Funko Pops and generally builds his identity around the things he watches and plays.

  • Sploomer has been parodying the Oomer Wojaks long before Doomer Girl came along. Don't mess with this guy.

  • Gloomer is a mix of Doomer and Bloomer. Confident in his abilities yet still anxious of the future, he is a young guy stuck in the moment, still thinking about how he is going to move forward.

  • Goomer is a man well into his 20s who spends all his time gaming. Still hoping to make money of hobby one day, he pours all his time into the grind, neglecting friends, career and any other aspirations a person might have.

There are dozens if not hundreds more Oomers in the wild, of course. Catch 'em all! (Or don't).
