Why Are TikTokers Dancing To 'Dance If You Gay, Bruce' And Where Does The Viral Audio Come From?
Twitch streamer Kai Cenat became the most subscribed creator on the platform this year, so it makes sense that he's helped inspire multiple viral videos, memes and trends over the past few months, from the term rizz to his collaborative dance with Adin Ross, The Rossy.
Recently, he's inspired the viral TikTok audio "Dance if you gay, Bruce" after streaming a hilarious "boys night" with BruceDropEmOff and YourRage. Here's why TikTokers are knowingly (and unknowingly) dancing to Cenat's sussy freestyle.
What Is "Dance If You Gay, Bruce?"
On November 14th, 2022, Kai Cenat hopped on Twitch to stream with YourRage and BruceDropEmOff for a "boys night." During the stream, the three men dressed up as stereotypical nerds. At one point, Cenat started freestyling over a beat. Bruce was feeling it and danced along until Cenat started to repeat the line, "dance if you gay, Bruce," causing him to stop dancing with a smile on his face.
The clip was uploaded to YouTube where it gained over a million views. Then it was uploaded to TikTok, where it gained over 3.5 million views. If that wasn't enough, TikTokers started to use the sound in their own videos, propelling the clip to viral status.
How Is "Dance If You Gay, Bruce" Used On TikTok?
Since the video went viral on TikTok, its original sound by @zayloe999 has blown up, gaining over 95,000 uses in under a month. Some of the top posts under the sound are videos by members of the LGBTQ+ community dancing under captions and jokes about the LGBTQ+ lifestyle and finding people of the same sex attractive.
Others, whether gay or not, are simply using the audio to dance to and as a background track for more general videos. There's something very catchy about the way Cenat sings "Dance if you gay, Bruce," that everyone seems to be getting a kick out of. One particularly viral clip with over 2.2 million views shows an image of Kris Jenner captioned with the lyrics, followed by footage of Caitlyn Jenner pre-transition dancing, referencing the transition.
Basically, people are finding many different ways to use the clip and while most of them are wholesome jokes, others land a bit derogatorily. Thus is the way of the internet.
