Capcom recently announced the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, a compilation of six games related to the iconic Marvel vs. Capcom video game series. Along with the announcement came cover art featuring the games' playable characters, including a very interesting depiction of Spider-Man and Morrigan giving each other a look that fans are having a lot of fun dissecting online. Here's why.
What Is the 'Morrigan x Spiderman' Ship?
Morrigan Aensland is a character originally from the Capcom fighting game Darkstalkers. Spider-Man is one of the most well-known Marvel superheroes of all time. These characters have both been playable in all three mainline Marvel vs. Capcom titles and since at least the mid-2010s, fans have been lowkey shipping them.
The ship originates from a few screens in the games, including a screen in the first game where the two are shown together, with Spider-Man saying, "Hope M.J. doesn't mind if I'm late tonight!" While this doesn't prove they're in any sort of relationship, the recent announcement of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection has revived the ship pairing to new heights. On the cover artwork, the two characters can be seen staring into each other's eyes very closely, which was pointed out by numerous posters online as evidence that they might be more than just rivals.
How Are 'Morrigan' and 'Spiderman' Shipped Online?
Ever since the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection was announced, social media has been flooding with artwork depicting Morrigan and Spider-Man in a relationship. The artwork spans from spicy to comedic, with some popular examples showing the two posing together for photos, going out on dates and embracing. Some are even making comic pages imagining the two in a relationship.
Artwork depicting the two characters has become popular on sites including X, Reddit and DeviantArt. Clearly, there are a lot of people who think the two make a good couple, although it is worth mentioning that Morrigan is canonically a succubus, suggesting Spider-Man might want to be careful around her.

The Spidey-Morrigan ship seems more wholesome than the last time an attempt to create a new romantic interest for Spidey, Cindy Moon/Silk.
Unfortunately the romantic interest part came in the form of Peter and Cindy getting horny whenever they got close.
Every single time.
EVERY.
SINGLE.
TIME.
Luckily Marvel saw that the writer and Silk's creator Dan Slott was starting to go down a dark road and decided to treat Silk like the other Spider Gals: Take Silk away from her creator and keep her away from Peter.

The Cindy Moon/Silk thing is doubly disappointing because out of all the girls MARVEL tried to replace MJ with post One More Day Cindy was the only one who had the potential to be interesting. I mean all the other new girls they made to be Peter Parker's girlfriend during that time period just came across as remixes of Spidey's previous love interests.
Silk was at least treading new ground by being a sidekick style partner that could have resulted in an equal partnership in all things kind of dynamic, but the pheromone thing made things weird enough to for that dynamic to never develop.
So yeah out of all the post One More Day disappointments in Spidey's love life I'd rank the mishandling of Silk up there with the constant Peter and MJ are getting back together PSYCH! MARVEL's been doing since they gave up on inventing a replacement for MJ.

Honestly, I think fans just want to see Peter get some.
Guy has had a hard life. Getting a literal sex goddess as a GF is a decent consolation, especially considering she's unlikely to die from falling off a bridge and could probably fix a gunwound if May gets shot again.
