A TikTok guy named Sam Wilmot, dressed in black, punk clothing with a small, rolled up beanie and stick-and-poke tattoos, has taken over the Twitter / X algorithm because people think that his "The Dichotomy Is Crazy" video is cringe.

The self-proclaimed "tough" guy who cries in the shower to Boygenius and Phoebe Bridgers is being ridiculed online for a seemingly innocent video. For some reason, the internet is using Wilmot as a symbol for a certain type of straight white guy that they've been waiting to dunk on.

However, who is Sam Wilmot? Why do so many people not like him? Let's explain.

Who Is Sam Wilmot?

Sam Wilmot is a TikToker who is part of a band called Savings. His TikTok account is @yesimsamwilmot. It's unknown how old Wilmot is, but he appears to be in his 20s. Per his band's Instagram page, they seem to be based in the American Southwest.

Wilmot's band Savings resembles Midwest Emo, popularized by bands like American Football. For Savings, they call themselves "Southwest Emo."

Why Is Sam Wilmot Viral On Twitter / X?

Sam Wilmot went viral this week on Twitter / X because of a tweet shared by user @powcampsurvivor, who captioned one of Wilmot's videos, "i thought everyone was exaggerating but these guys really do exist."

The tweet shared a January 2024 video posted by Wilmot to his own TikTok page.

Why Do Twitter / X Users Dislike Sam Wilmot?

In the replies and quotes of the viral tweet, users sounded off with insults and parodies that labeled Wilmot's outfit and attitude "cringe." Many of the jokes centered on stereotypes about men who dress punk like Wilmot, labeling them as abusers and creeps.

The jokes resonated with a lot of people, evident in the mass amount of likes on each post. At the same time, people came out of the woodwork to defend Wilmot.

Some said, "This is just a guy. have any of you seen a guy before?" while others, like an alleged friend of Wilmot said, "he’s been nothing but kind and supportive of me. So everyone thinking you’re dunking on him by recycling jokes you saw on 4chan, you look stupid."

It seems that the only crime that Wilmot's committed is being a little too cringy on the timeline. Plus, it's evident that people have been abused or hurt by men who dress similar to Wilmot, fashioned with heavy metal font t-shirts and "above-the-ears beanie" like one user said.

For right now, memes about Wilmot's video read like engagement bait made to fuel outrage, stereotypes and bad hook-up memories. This perception is evident in viral posts that are already tired of the slew of posts featuring this "tough" guy.

What's The 'The Dichotomy Is Crazy' Copypasta?

Many are using Wilmot's monologue as a copypasta since its virality. For those who want to use it to spam comment sections and private group chats, here it is in full:

I think it's really funny that I dress like this and give off like, tough, like a tough sort of thing going on and then I cry to Phoebe Bridgers in the shower and I listen to Searows and Boygenius and… the dichotomy is crazy, but uh… I don't even listen to hardcore music that much. Look at this shirt, it's my friend's tattoo brand. Anyway, I'm going to go. Later.
