Who Is Desmond Benjamin? The Viral Kid On TikTok Who Loves 'Rainbow Magnets' Explained
Ever since TikToker Brandon Sloane (@brandon.sloane) interviewed a kid named Desmond Benjamin at Target, the whole app has been going crazy, making memes and edits with his wholesome cameo.
Many online have seen the original video which has racked up more than 10 million views across social media platforms. He's since made multiple appearances on the original TikTok channel, spawning niche fame amongst a bunch of strangers online.
So, where did Desmond Benjamin come from? Who is he and why is TikTok obsessed with him? Let's explain.
Who Is Desmond Benjamin?
Desmond Benjamin is young kid who went viral this year for his appearances on TikToker Brandon Sloane's channel.
It's ultimately unclear where Desmond is from but it seems that, since his TIkTok fame, he's become a local celebrity in his community, evident in videos posted by his mother that show him being swarmed by high schoolers on their local football field, all wanting to take a picture with him and talk to the legend.
As stated, Desmond's mom has made a TikTok account for herself and her son called @mrs100bills where Desmond makes several appearances.
Why Is Desmond Benjamin A Meme?
Desmond Benjamin gained meme attention when TikToker Brandon Sloane posted a video earlier this month in which he interviewed Desmond. Sloane's channel centers on interviewing kids in department stores, telling them to "not talk into the mic" and he'll buy them anything that they want.
Hilariously, Desmond immediately talked into the mic when it was put to his face, failing the prompt given to him. It didn't matter, though, because Sloane still bought him what he wanted — rainbow magnets.
The video amassed millions of views in a short timeframe, also going viral on Sloane's Instagram account. In turn, a small fandom developed around Desmond who found his personality cute and charming. He quickly became the internet's little brother.
Meme creators started to make fan edits with him and call him a "king" as a way to humorously celebrate his awesome aura. Due to the success, Sloane has brought Desmond back to his channel multiple times since the original video.
