My New Character proved to be an internet favorite when he was launched on Twitter / X last year, but My Old Character is slowly winning hearts as well. Internet users are super curious about how and why she cultivated her vibe, and what her relationship to My New Character is.

Where Did My Old Character Come From?

My Old Character is a spin-off of the hugely popular My New Character meme. My New Character was created by Twitter artist @PhillipBankss roughly a year ago when he was described as a "super chill guy" who low-key doesn't give a hoot.

In April of this year, @PhillipBankss A.K.A. Philb posted a new OC; a blue-tinted girl dog looking super unchill, her hands in her pockets and her brow furrowed. She's dressed in a dark sweater, red pants and blue lace-up shows, a far cry from My Old Character's laid-back vibe.

How Did 'My Old Character' Become A Meme?

Soon after people began harping on about 'My New Character' and how cool they think he is, some internet users rose up to defend 'My Old Character.' On September 1st, TikToker @blitzerzz posted a photo slideshow included the My Old Character meme. The text on the image read, "We may (not) think too highly of my old character at first But the more we learn about her The more she works her way out of our hearts."

Other TikTokers found their own ways to pay tribute to My Old Character, including @bakednixon, who posted a video showing himself drawing her on paper, and @2millionbajilliondollars, who posted her alongside a moody Dean Blunt song.

How Do People Depict 'My New Character' and 'My Old Character'?

After people were done joking about "My Old Character," the fanart began to roll in. People created their own elaborate backstories for both My New Character and My Old Character, with TikToker @paperclipemoji posting artwork depicting them crying over a grave.

Other art was less depressing, showing both characters being fast friends and even lovers.
