What Is This Cheese 'Burger' Floating Around Social Media, And Can You (Or Should You) Get It?

There is a sandwich in Thailand right now so heinous, such a sickening abomination to all things the West knows and loves about the humble burger, that it had no choice but to go viral. We speak, of course, of Burger King Thailand's "Real Cheese Burger."

What Is Burger King Thailand's "Real Cheese Burger"?

Just over a week ago, Burger King Thailand announced the "Real Cheese Burger," which is literally just two buns with about 20 slices of American cheese in the middle. There is no "burger." Its cost is roughly equivalent to $3.15 in U.S. currency.

By most accounts, that is literally it. There isn't any extra preparation done to the sandwich to elevate it in any way, according to some accounts. One adventurous diner told The New York Times, “The cheese is not even melted and the bun is not even warmed.”

It's unclear why Burger King Thailand experimented with the "Real Cheese Burger." Articles about the sandwich seem to suggest it's merely a "shock" food designed to grab headlines, not unlike KFC's infamous Double Down.

Is The "Real Cheese Burger" Any Good?

By most accounts, no. As might be expected, attempting to eat 20 slices of American cheese at once proved too daunting a task for many diners. Critics in Thailand reported only making it through a couple of bites before giving up, with some saying the health risk (which is probably just an upset tummy) is not worth it.

On the plus side, however, some suggested they might get the burger and just keep the cheese, as the price of a Real Cheese Burger is less than what it would cost to buy twenty slices of American Cheese.

Can You Get The Real Cheese Burger?

If you're still down to at least give the viral food a shot, you'd better get to Thailand in the next two days. According to The New York Times, Burger King Thailand plans to keep the item on its menu until July 20th, but it is not planning on bringing it to the United States.
