The meme format is known as Guys I Have Something I Need To Confess and it's been going viral across social media in July 2025.
So where exactly did the meme come from and what's it all about? Here's what you need to know.
What Is The 'Guys I Have Something I Need To Confess' Meme?
The "Something I Need To Confess" meme is based on a webcomic by Twitter / X user and artist @featherleafern. The comic shows a man going to his friends or parents to confess something. He confesses what's described as a "scary or horrifying secret" to them, but their reaction isn't what the man is expecting.
In the final panel of the comic, the people that the man confessed to are shown with shock on their faces under a banner reading, "Gay is okay!" The woman is holding a cake with the trans pride flag on it and the man is wearing an "I <3 trans" shirt, suggesting that they were expecting the man to announce that he was part of the LGBTQ+ community.
The post gained over 141,000 likes in about a week and quickly became the subject of edits.
How Is 'Guys I Have Something I Need To Confess' Used In Memes?
The comic is mainly being used as a redraw format. That means that artists and social media users in general are taking the comic and either drawing over it, or redrawing it, to change the context. This mostly involves replacing the characters with characters from other fandoms that might fight the dynamic shown in the comic.
Some popular examples include a version about Miles Morales admitting he's Spider-Man, a How to Train Your Dragon version and a version about Doki Doki Literature Club that gained over 8,000 upvotes on its related subreddit.
