What Is The Gary Busey 'Buttered Sausage' Meme? The Viral Deepfake And TikTok Trend Explained
A viral video of what appears to be Gary Busey talking about "buttered sausage" has surfaced on the net.
Originally going viral on TikTok, the clip is spreading fast, fooling many into thinking that it's real. Of course, it sounds like something that the actor would say. Many people, who've watched Busey age over the past few years, wouldn't expect the clip to be AI-generated.
So, who is the man playing Gary Busey? How did he do it and how did it go viral? Let's explain.
What Is The 'Buttered Sausage' Meme?
The meme in question is a fake podcast clip that shows a Gary Busey deepfake talking about "buttered sausage." The man's full quote is, "Let's talk about buttered sausage. Where it comes from? What it does? Why is it doing what it's doing? Get it out of my face."
The strange ramble, centered on the notoriously weird aura of Busey himself, has become a meme on TikTok. There, meme creators are using the original video's audio as a TikTok sound. They're also greenscreening Busey over different backgrounds, pairing him with captions that relate.
Who Posted The Original 'Buttered Sausage' Video?
The video was created by two men named Jayson Thibault and Jeff Richards on the appropriately named Jeff Richards Show. Originally posted to their TikTok channel last Tuesday, the duo uploaded the full-length podcast to their YouTube the day after.
As stated, the man in the video is not actually Gary Busey. Instead, it's Jeff Richards with Busey's face AI-generated onto him, known as a "deepfake." All Richards had to do was get Busey's voice, mannerisms and cadence down in order to do a totally accurate impression.
