What Is 'Sickos Ha Ha Yes'? The Meme Of The 'Sicko' Peering Through The Window Explained
If you've been on the internet, well, ever in the past few years, chances are you've seen this image: a bearded man peering through a window, labeled "Sickos" laughing maniacally at something that brings him perverse joy.
Here's where the Sickos Haha Yes meme comes from and what it means:
Where Does The "Sickos Haha Yes" Meme Come From?
This "sicko" is a cropped section of a cartoon by Stan Kelly, a cartoonist for The Onion who tends to mock stereotypical American values with his comics. On February 16th, 2015, he posted a comic imagining that if drugs were legalized, procedural cop shows would cease to exist, portending doom for the nuclear American family. As the scene plays out, a man labeled "Sickos" is viewing the family's horror and laughing maniacally.
Over the following years, the comic saw some attention as part of compilations of Kelly's work, but it wasn't until 2017 that the panel began finding its way into memedom.
How Is 'Sickos Haha Yes' Used As A Meme?
The panel has primarily seen use as a reaction image and is used when the poster is reacting to something they find perversely enjoyable. Take, for example, this 2020 version commenting on "Season 2 Twin Peaks episodes David Lynch wasn't involved in."
Most fans of the show agree that the middle, Lynch-less section of its second season referred to in the meme is the weakest stretch of the series, but this memer is expressing their appreciation for the episodes.
The panel has also seen use as an exploitable, edited where the man in the panel is replaced with a mischievous pop culture character, such as the goose from Untitled Goose Game.
Due to its origins with Stan Kelly, the panel tends to be used by left-wing users, if it has any political use at all.
