What Is 'Pwerking?' And What Is 'Bwerking?' The Female 'Twerking' And 'Dwerking' Alternatives Going Viral On TikTok Explained
A lot of ladies on TikTok are participating in a new dance trend called "pwerking." For other women with different features, "bwerking" is their dance move of choice.
What do these slang terms mean, exactly? Well, first off, they stem from the recent "dwerking" trend, which featured men shaking their crotches in a rhythmic, bouncing motion.
The women watching apparently got jealous. "I'll never experience what dwerking feels like," said one girl on the app.
So, the females coined "pwerking" and "bwerking," and if you can't decipher their meanings, we've got you covered. Let's explain what's going on.
What Is 'Dwerking?'
To understand the terms "pwerking" and "bwerking," you have to first understand what "dwerking" means.
It's the name of a dance move that's the male alternative to "twerking." Instead of shaking one's rear, men have realized that they can shake their johnsons in a similar bouncing motion.
The "dwerking" trend became popular on TikTok this year, after it was coined by TikToker @mojothewzzrd in May.
What Is 'Pwerking?'
Although twerking was already for the ladies, not all women have been given the natural abilities or features to properly perform the dance. So, when they saw that guys discovered dwerking, which technically, all of them could do, the girls decided to invent "pwerking."
With a "P" replacing the "D" in the word, a savvy linguist can infer the body part being shaken in the dance. For those who are still unsure, pwerking, like dwerking, involves shaking one's crotch, but it only applies to the female body.
What Is 'Bwerking?'
"Bwerking" is another female alternative to twerking that centers on a woman's chest instead of her backside. The word itself, "bwerking," combines the word "twerking" with the female body part that starts with the letter "B."
So, when women on TikTok started pwerking this year, others decided that bwerking was more their style. The videos have been going viral all month.
Where Did 'Pwerking' And 'Bwerking' Come From?
"Pwerking" was invented by TikToker @sillyboylilly earlier this month, or at least, her video is the earliest "pwerking" namedrop we could find online.
She used the same TikTok sound that all the guys were using for their dwerking videos. However, she instead joked, "How's my pwerk? I'm new."
Meanwhile, "bwerking" seems to have been coined by TikToker @his_.fav_brunette, who shared a video on July 15th, with the caption, "'Can you dwerk?' Nah, I can bwerk though!" Again, she used the same TikTok audio as the dwerking videos.
