Online today, there are a lot of slang words, phrases, and generally "Zoomer-isms" that get thrown around in various off-handed comments, or as replies with very little context as to what it means. It's one of those things where you just 'had to be there' when it was first starting out, otherwise you might appear to be ridiculously out of touch. "Daddy chill" is just another one of those in a long list of phrases, but don't worry, we'll explain what the hell that even is.

What Is 'Daddy Chill'?

Simply put, "Daddy chill" is a phrase spoken as part of a longform skit video that went viral back in 2019. In the short, a father and homeowner arrives at a party in progress, and is understandably irritated at what is going on. This prompts the character "Tippy" to say the phrase in an attempt to de-escalate the situation, which has the opposite result.

How Is 'Daddy Chill' Used Online?

Online, the phrase is used primarily on TikTok, as the platform prioritizes audio phrases, but it has also seen use on other social media platforms as a standalone comment or reply. During the height of its usage, the phrase was meant to be used after purposely causing a stressful situation, or used as a way to create one, as seen by early TikTokers using it at inappropriate times like a drive-thru.

Who Says 'Daddy Chill"?

The phrase is spoken by Tippy, a character in the skit who was played by an actor also named Tippy. Tippy is a YouTuber and content creator who, since the viral explosion of "Daddy chill," created their own channel and merch line based off it.
