What Does 'Too Many Sweats' Mean? 'Sweats' The 'Fortnite' Slang Term And Meme Explained
When playing Fortnite or any other competitive video game, people will often throw around the phrase, "Too many sweats" in the lobby, just to get on your nerves.
The gaming slang term "sweats" predates many of the TikTok memes that have more recently started using it. As many see it online in video content, they want to know what it means. However, maybe you should look in the mirror if it keeps being said to you.
So, what does "sweats" mean? What does "too many sweats" mean and what's the original "Too Many Sweats" video? Let's explain.
What Does 'Sweats' Mean?
"Sweats" originates from the term "sweaty gamer." The idea is this, if you're playing a video game and sweating profusely, you're probably trying too hard and are therefore not very good at the video game. Alternatively, it can mean you're taking things far too seriously and sucking all the fun out of it for other players (similar to a "tryhard").
So, calling someone a "sweat" means that you're essentially calling them a "noob tryhard."
Where Did 'Too Many Sweats' Come From?
The origin of the catchphrase "This Is Why I Quit, Too Many Sweats" is murky. It's first discovered usage comes from a 2021 TikTok, however, the video wasn't very viral.
The term has evolved outside of the gaming community in satirical content since then. For instance, one viral video was shared earlier this year in which a music producer is labeled a "sweat" because he's seemingly trying way too hard.
