What Does The Croissant Emoji Mean On TikTok? The 'Croissant Army' Meme Explained
If you've been on TikTok lately, you may have seen the croissant emoji covering your favorite creators' comment sections. Maybe you've been the victim of the spam comments yourself! These croissants come from a ragtag army of users called the "Croissant Army" and they're being ruled by one paramedic TikToker named @thesleepyparamedic. Here's the full story.
What Does The 'Croissant Emoji' Mean On TikTok?
Near the end of December 2022, TikToker @thesleepyparamedic, who posts videos about paramedic-related topics, started receiving comments from a user named @spectrexxxx consisting of only the croissant emoji (🥐). The comments prompted him to post a video directly asking the user why, which only inspired viewers to join in on the spam, filling all of his videos with the emoji.
The Sleepy Paramedic took the spam well and played into it, even releasing some merch with croissants on it. The spam comments kept on coming and the group started referring to themselves as the Croissant Army. In the following days, the army started spamming other users' comment sections with the emoji, focusing largely on emergency service workers, but also just hitting people randomly.
The Sleepy Paramedic was eager to get in on the fun and became the commander of the group. He started posting videos directing the army to specific users, such as firefighter @FireDeptChronicles and most recently, YouTuber Hank Green. He eventually got an answer from @spectrexxx about the emojis, who apparently only started spamming them because he likes bread. Truly enlightening stuff.
How Is The 'Croissant Emoji' Used In Memes On TikTok?
Just like other TikTok spam comments like "nerf miner" and the recipe for brownies, the Croissant Emoji is simply being posted as a comment under TikTok videos. Beyond the people directly targeted by @thesleepyparamedic, the targets mostly seem random as the army has taken matters into their own hands. Sometimes they post one croissant, sometimes many and sometimes they shoutout @thesleepyparamedic and the army blatantly.
Victims of the spam comments are also racking up good views by sharing the fact that they're victims of the army. So, if you want to get in on the fun, look for a croissant in the comment sections of videos on your FYP and add another. What's the worst that could happen?
