What Does 'OBCD' Mean On TikTok? The Viral Slang Term Explained
There's a new slang term going around on TikTok thanks to Nikocado Avocado. The term is OBCD and it's been appearing online since as early as 2008 as a funny alternative to the word "obesity" combined with the acronym "OCD." Here's what you need to know.
What Does 'OBCD' Mean?
To learn what OBCD means, all you really have to do is say the acronym out loud. When spoken, the letters "OBCD" sound like the word "obesity" and that's exactly how the term is used online. It's a funny way to say "obesity" that combines the word with the acronym "OCD," which stands for "obsessive-compulsive disorder."
The term has actually been used online since as early as 2008 on Twitter, but only gained significant virality in August 2022 after YouTuber Nikocado Avocado uploaded a mukbang video. In the video, Nikocado's husband Orlin says he has "OBCD" after Nikocado claims to have OCD, resulting in a hilarious look of shock.
How Is 'OBCD' Used In Memes?
The month Nikocado uploaded his video, it was reuploaded to TikTok as an edit that gained over 7.5 million views. The audio clip was then used in a Roblox meme that September. The audio went viral, inspiring over 78,000 videos by March 2023.
The majority of TikTokers use the audio for lip dub videos where someone expresses shock similar to Nikocado's over being told they have OBCD. Other TikTokers have used the audio over videos of overweight cats to lightheartedly poke fun at their weight. There are also a host of videos using the caption "go play with your Christmas presents" set to the audio where a shocked face, sometimes the blue emoji is shown after the word "OBCD" is spoken.
