What Does 'Mascara' Mean On TikTok? The Code Word, Slang Term And Viral Trend Explained
Right now, TikTokers are going viral on For You Pages across the world by telling stories about their "mascara" — only, they're not really talking about mascara in these text-heavy videos. They're actually talking about something much more intimate, using the code word "mascara" as a sneaky way to get past censors.
Here's what mascara means on TikTok and what the "wand trend" is all about.
What Does Mascara Mean On TikTok?
If you see a viral video with a long caption about mascara pop up on your For You Page, the user is probably not talking about the beauty product. Instead, she's likely talking about her vibrator or sex toy and using "mascara" as a sneaky way to reference it.
This was likely started as a way to avoid censorship from TikTok and it's now taken off as one of the newest slang words on the platform. Some TikTokers are making it very blatant that they aren't talking about mascara, writing things like "this is not about mascara" at the end of long on-screen captions about their favorite mascara. The trend seemingly started with TikToker @trynnafind.kendall on January 12th and it's only gotten bigger since.
How Is Mascara Used On TikTok?
TikTokers are inserting "mascara" in place of words like "vibrator" and "sex toy," often in long-form captions telling stories about their vibrators. Some TikTokers are giving whole history lessons on their mascara, while others are explaining how they're looking for a new mascara or how they haven't been able to top their first mascara. Once you know what they're actually talking about, it starts to make a little more sense why these women are so passionate about a "beauty product."
Most TikTokers are using the original sound "constellations by duster" for the videos, which is a sound that consists of the song "Constellations" by, you guessed it, Duster. If you've ever wanted to get something off your chest about your own "mascara" for all of TikTok to see, now is the time to do it apparently.
